This is a truck put together by a local Guy I have helped and done work for in the past. He did all the work I provided the vehicles and the idea. He started off wanting a 72 with a 5.3L and newer trans in it. I found the old body with a rolling chassis and a wrecked 05 tahoe for the motor and trans etc...
Then I got to measuring and told him to just put the body on the 05, its the same wheel base and would be sweet, plus you would add 4 wheel drive with the nice ride etc....
The more I thought about it I thought if you where to cut out the firewall and floor of the tahoe, then cut it out of the 72, you could then weld it under the 72 cab. By doing this the 05 dash would bolt in along with the steering wheel, wiring everything right down to the air bags, seats and remote locks.

Well thats just what he did and did a dam good job it along with a good paint job. I am very impressed and other than helping him brain storm here and there to get ideas about fitment or this or that he did all the work. I'm impressed.
This is the first of its kind and a dang impressive package.
Drives like a 05 Tahoe, looks like a 72, the firewall is farther forward so it adds leg room and the seats sit lower adding head room.

I think he should submit it to a few magazines, what do you think.

Does he want to do another?

No offense but if you have to ask how much you can't afford it.

This is one I did for his dad, if I charge what it should have cost it would have been a 50k paint job but it was more work, pretty much hand fabed, and sculpted. Had to do a ton of rebuilding. But he was offered over 100k for it. I only did the body they did the interior and mechanical.

Well it was a friend deal and he didn't pay full up, the deal was I could use his mechanic shop if needed or anything of his. Then on the red truck he told someone I cost to much and said there was no way I had that many hrs in it. So I cut my losses and haven't dealt with him since, but the guy that did the black one I still talk to. Wish I could get the 60k I didn't get paid in labor, but its nice to have the opportunity to learn, so no hard feelings.

Wow. Very cool. I restored one of those back in high school and sure wish I had it back. This is taking it to a whole different level, though. I would certainly submit that to some magazines.

Nice work Wyoboy!

Last year I went and snagged my grandpas old 84 GMC 1500 reg cab long bed 2wd with a 6.2 to rebuild. Haven't started tearing into it other than to find out if the 6.2 was junk or not, it is. New plan is to throw a 5.9 12 valve with a ZF5 speed behind it and use it as a commuter, 45 mile drive to work everyday one way.

Also have a 67 Mustang that I've had the vision of the older body style with upgraded motor, suspension, and interior.

Anyways, thanks for posting this! It's motivation to get started!

Nice execution of merging the two vehicles, I'm completely jealous. I thought I saw a thread on 67-72chevytrucks.com a while back for this same conversion...can't find it now but I'm guessing its the same guy.

This is several years after the fact but I am in the middle of this same project. Is there any way you could put me in contact with the gentleman that did this project and ask him a few questions? Thanks
