Its losing antifreeze in the motor some where and setting the temp light on.
I pulled the heads off and it looks ok, cant see any cracks.
Middle piston looks like it might have some start of some detination.

Was there any comon problems with these motors?

I pulled the drain plugs on the block and no visable sings of coolant.

Whats the next step?

Base Gaskets!! Order some metal ones from cometics. Check the rod bearings good when you have it apart.

I'm fairly knowable on the twins but not to much experience with the triples.

With a twin motor if the base gasket goes bad it usually fills the crankcase with coolant after it sits awhile. And when you first start it has a bunch of white smoke at first.

My experience has been pistons have been washed clean or less carbon on them when coolant has been run through.

Their was a few little drops of coolant in the exhaust (main exit) port of 2 cylinders.

Thanks for all of the suggestions, keep them coming!

I'm trying to help a buddy out and don't want to have to buy more parts than needed he is on a tight budget.

What year is the motor? The second year they changed the water pump and if you have seals bad in the pump it can leak antifreeze into the bottom end.

And of course base gaskets can do the same thing and they can seep so they don't fill the bottomend.

Is the motor stock? No porting done to it?

I belive its a 1996, I will have to double check.
Is their a way to check the water pump with out tearing it a part?

Moter is bone stock, only 850 miles on.

On the left side (I think) of the waterpump theres a little window about the size of a dime or nickel, theres motor oil in it, see if its white/milky colored.

If theres no window you have the sealed pump which I thought were less problematic, theres the same thing as the window in the sealed unit cast into it just no window.

Manufacture date is 9/96 so its a 97 model year.
The water pump has no sight glass that I can find.

Sounds like I need to replace the base and water pump gaskets and that should take care of it.

Any other suggestions?
