Trying to get my engine temp. down around 100f when full out in a climb. Right now my sled seams to be between 127-130f but drops down to 123-125f as soon as I let off the gas. Any suggestions?

They make more hp around there. And the ecu pulls timing when 130.

Or can remove the stock thermostat (if a 16 or 17), or drill holes in it to improve coolant flow. I installed a BMP billet head, see if the opened up water passages offer any benefits first...
A tuner to add a touch of fuel would help some as well..

16 axys. I have a aftermarket head. It just uses the stock 16/17 t-stat. Would removing the t-stat help and plugging the by pass or just removing the t-stat help lower coolant temp when full out climbing in the steep and deep ?

I did the 18 thermostat with 18 slp head skull and domes on my 16 axys. There are some guys on here that run gutted thermostats and run right around 100 degrees. if you did that I would think that you would want to plug the bypass or put a restrictor in it, you will get the engine cold shot start up when you do this.

so I am assuming that we cant get a cooler Tstat or just use the 2018s Tstat? on a side note I have heard of a product called purple ice made by royal purple clams to run up to 22f cooler. it might help on the temps on the long pulls but I think the over all temp of 120-125 is the Tstat and can only be changed by the Tstat {don't know a lot about gutting the Tstas but I do know if the engine drops below min. operating temp it runs like $h!t and you risk some piston slap or worse! but I am not saying the sled has enough coolant rail to make that happen im just saying that they have a tstat for a reason and I would think if Polaris could save $$$$ and weight on not having a Tstat or housing for it they would!!!}
just my 2c

Could you not do a remote bypass tstat just like the 11+ ?
Skidoo, terralps, powderfreaks all have one available.

I dont know the axys setup so unsure if it could be done the same?

I thought about that also, but not sure if it would work.

I know this a Axys. But for what it’s worth, I did the bypass and the MTNTK cooler on a PRO and the results were just so so. The tunnels just don’t get the snow up inside like you’d think.

I have the remote terraalps stat and aftermarket hi comp head in my 11 pro, I run 98-105 all the time. 3" PC track. The track makes a difference, it ran cooler with the 3" vs the 2.6PC and 2.25PC. I put the 3" snow flap on and it ran even cooler, didn't like it though so back to stock flap.

I believe it's all about the thermostat like many have said already. Polaris has used the 50 degree Celsius (122f) thermostat for a long time. Unless you do something to open up that thermostat or find a new one that runs colder that fits there isn't much you can do. Those motors are engineered to run at that temp also and it wouldn't surprise me if the ECU detunes the motor if you are too far above or below that range. I read something a while back about the 18s having a reprogrammed ECU just to deal with the 5 degrees Celsius drop in opening temperature.

Anyone know if you can run the aftermarket head for an 18 and install the 18 housing and thermostat on it? Wouldn't mind having a head. Would prefer that over adding a cooler.

Jim at dynotech has checked temps on his dyno vs power and says 98-105 is fine on the older sleds with no ecu detuning. The ecu does start detuning at 130, if i recall correctly.

if I remember right my 16 runs 120-125 just cursing in the pow and just gets in the 130-135 with a good pull up hill. if we don't loose power/detune until 130 I think im going to try this VP RACING FUELS INTRODUCES NEW, IMPROVED COOL DOWN™ - VP
