Hey guys,

I received a brand new 300XC for a turn-key build. Thanks to the owner, he agreed to make it public. It will be a great motivator and encourager for a lot of people considering a snowbike in this category. There is a lot of interest on smaller cc 2-strokes. Snocattin's 2006 YZ250 is a good example of how well they work, and how fun they are! Listen to the vid!..Ha! There are literally thousands of good clean 250 class MX bikes out there. With a few simple modifications, they can give you a ton of fun all winter. Easy to operate and practically maintenance free. With about 50HP and an ST or SX kit, they are a ton of fun.

This particular build will include everything to make the most available in the 250/300 class.

#1- New 2013 KTM 300XC
#2- 300SX Head, 180psi
#3- Cylinder porting; port and polish
#4- SX- CDI Box
#5- PC Platinum-2 exhaust system
#6- E-Line Carbon Fiber Pipe Guard
#7- KTM "red" power valve exhaust spring
#8- V-Force 4 Reed Block
#9- APT Cast 38MM Smart Carb
#10- Custom Neoprene Carb Jacket
#11- KTM electric Carb Heater
#12- Custom Boondocker clean air intake system
#13- Rekluse Core EXP Clutch
#14- 70 C KTM Thermostat
#15- Fastway/Pro Moto, Adventure Pegs, Risers and Guards
#16- Moose Racing Grip Heaters
#17- Stinger LifePO-4 Battery, 219 CCA
#18- UFO Plastics
#19- Graphics

This will produce a very aggressive pkg with HP safely in the mid 50's. When mounted to an ST Kit, it will be a real fun ripper.
The bike is in the shop and all parts on order. Next week will begin the project. The build process, all tuning and testing will be posted here. Stay tuned!

Parts are showing up! Waiting for the cylinder yet. Forward Motion said they would make a quick turn-around. Hopefully this week. There are plenty of things here to get started while i'm waiting.

I feel just like that.jpg

Got the Fastway box. Risers, foot peg's and guards. These are the nicest money can buy. Their riser with the machined fit for the KTM is super nice. Body position is excellent with the peg's in the "low" position and their 2" riser. This thing will be super fast handling!!!

Slavens Racing sent a box of goodies also! The SX Head, I will post later, with the cylinder, and the SX CDI box. The box is a swap with the XC. You can swap back for summer if you prefer, or leave it wild. Modern electronics are so nice to work with. This SX box has an aggressive timing advance in the mid range and some retarded timing on top for a lot of over-rev. Perfect for MX or a snow
bike.

Time for some throttle response and WOT flow from Moto-Tassinari.
The new V-force 4 reed block and reeds reduce clutter by 15%. That equals a lot of flow and their reed design is super responsive. They are a thing of beauty! Ha ... you have to be a tuner to appreciate. :)

Time to look at the exhaust power valve timing. KTM makes this an easy and user-friendly adjustment. There are 3 spring choices. The Red is the softer spring, and more aggressive setting. Exactly what we want for the snow. Right side access makes the adjustments and changes quite easy. Red spring install and pre-load set.

Hey guys. For all the e-start guys out there, I am doing some testing of different batteries this year. I have been steered to this new battery, the Stinger. The Stinger has 219 cold cranking amps.! The highest available. The only question is cold temp performance? I have an unconditional warranty with this battery, so it's worth a try. Balanced cel's and NOT a special "charger" required like some others. I will test and report back on this. It does have a handy battery state of charge test button. Pretty cool. I want to put it through the test on frozen solid mornings.... We will see..? They are warrantied for 2 years.

On my 300 I just changed the battery box to the 530 box I believe it was and I slid a Yuasa 7S battery in instead of the 4. The E-start bikes love the bigger batteries. I also found the starters seem to last longer and be more trouble free.

Thanks for the great inspiration to tear into my 300!

How difficult was it to find the CDI box? Didn't see that on Slaven's website.

Also are you intending to keep running pump gas?

Slavens will ship you the CDI. Give them a call. The target is 180 psi. and pump gas. I will do a compression check after brake-in and see where it is. Some engines can get away with a little more and no det. If it comes in on the high side, I add an ounce per gallon of Maxima High Test to pump gas. No need for the hassle of race gas.

MtnDoo, I've done SX head and ignition as well. Very nice. Also have carb heater and ceramic coated pipe. I weighed around 215 before gear last year and my xcw ripped. Now that I'm 175 and have a new top end, this bike will really rip! I also have the larger tank and no issues with fuel supply. Rekluse also - works awesome. Smartcarb on the way also. Can't wait for snow!!
