it should not have "banged", might need a new cap, as it should vent off, at around 10 to 15 psi. To bleed the air, lift the front of the sled, to get the rear cooler, at the lowest point, compared to the engine. Gravity does the rest.

Yep, sounds like the rad cap is not opening if you blew the tank apart. MAybe throw in a new T-stat as well.

If you want to go to a smaller tank then you can get a small bottle (CR Racing and most other shops sell them).
