looking at putting a 1.5" paddle on my sons 89 indy sport 340. wanting to change the driver to help it pull through the powder a little bit better. right now it does good if its flat ground, but as soon as he gets on an incline the thing just digs with the bar track thats on it now.

who has changed the track on the older small sleds? how hard is it? is it worth it for an 8 yr old?

You might try long tracking the sled. A 136 or 144 small lug track, up to 1.25" lugs, will fit in with some effort (rail and tunnel extensions). We have found that with small displacement sleds, you should focus on flotation and rider skill rather than big track lugs and track speed to stay afloat on snow.

I second what 550iq states.

Is this 340 equipped with a chaincase or is it direct drive? This can play into what you might want to do with it.

Thanks for all the info guys. Right now I am putting 136 rails, and a 136 camoplast 1 1/4" track under it along with skis off my old 01 rmk. Should work out good for my son. Thinking of going with 8 tooth drivers while I have it all apart.

Go for the 8 tooth drivers! I did it on my 79 txl 340 build a few years ago. Helps a bunch to gear these little sleds down. Chain case machines gear down I am running a 17 tooth upper and a 39 lower with my 133x 1.5 track on mine jumps up onto the snow quite nice and is very snappy.but runs out of speed at about 50 with my gearing so it makes a great speed limiter. I am running an xtra 10 skid and custom built bulkhead with IFS trailing arms as of now though :face-icon-small-hap
