Who is running a KTM 500. Should I buy one?

I'm on a 350 now. Love the bike, but would like a little more power for the open riding. However, it will likely cost me $2500 to upgrade.

What are the thoughts of a 2013 500 EXC (or equivilent)

I would think this would be sick on a MH!?!?!? Only 10 lbs heavier than my 350.

Thanks,

Ryan

Only 10lbs but feels a lot heavier than that. I ride with two guys one has a 12 350 xcw and one has a 12 500 xcw both bikes do really well but the 500 definitely has the power advantage. The guy that rides the 500 took the 350 for a spin and couldn't believe how much lighter it felt so they weighed them and the 500 was only like 12lbs heavier.

After 5 hours of stressing about it, I'm going to stick with the 350. The bike just rocks....and it's not worth the additional investment of $2,500-3,000 to get something that I might not like on the dirt.

Is it Saturday yet.......I'm itching to ride!! :)

why not get a 450? I have a 350sx and on the track sure it feels a little lighter than a 450 but really it's the same bike and the 450 has significantly more power. The light vs heavy feel is 80% due to the type of motor and other moving parts/geometry. 450's and your 350 have a short stroke high reving engine that produces a lot of wheel speed. Ktm and other off road big bores like their 500 are a long stroke lower reving engine that produces tons of torque but they tend to "feel" heavy. Any mass that is moving (rotational mass) makes it feel a lot heavier than it's actual weight. Ktm still makes the 450xcf I think which is a short stroke, same engine as their 450sx, if you want an off road bike for the dirt that rocks. Yet if you buy their 450 exc it will be a heavier feeling longstroke engine (I know, ktm has way too mant models to keep straight). My track kit is on a kx 450 and it rips. I have a ktm 350 and a 2 stroke 300 but I don't plan on putting a track kit on either because even though they would work I wouldn't want any less power than I have now. If I went to a 500 it would be a 2 stroke probably.

Yeah i may go with the 450 at some point. I have a few buddies with 450s and they will be buying kits next year, so we'll see how big the difference is....

My buddy is riding a 2013 500 XCW with the ST and it rips! I am riding a 2010 SXF 450 and it is working really well too, a 500 XCW or the Berg 501 will be my next snowbike. I have a 300 2 stroke for my summer bike so I won't need to wrestle the big bore on trails in the summer

There is a guy looking to trade me my 09 300 xcw for an 08 450 xcf. Should I do it? At the moment, I am kind of fixed to only owning one bike for summer and winter.

Keep the 300 if you love it with wheels. Tell him you want a snow and dirt demo day, you'll know why he wants your torque monster.
