Ive never bought a "new" pickup that was not a Dodge, and the Laramie Longhorn is very nice, but from past experiences I've got to wonder how nice it will be with 90,000 miles.
That's usually when they turn into rattleing Rams.

i'm not a dodge guy by any means, but these newer rams can look pretty good. a lot better lookin than the last body style. hopefully the new auto will have a better track record than the old one, they must have some doubts only offering it in the 3500. i wish the others still offered a manual trans, that's one place i think dodge done good. when i bought my dmax i was lookin for a manual, but they're one in a million. i enjoy flippin the ol stick around.

there is nothing bad to say about the reliability of the 68 RFE auto in the newer dodges. they are light years better than the old dodge autos that gave the "dodge auto tranny" a bad rep.

Thanks for the info

850 ft lbs sounds good.

I wonder if this new aisin has the same gearing as the aisin in the chassis cab? If so that is wider ratio and I like the gearing better then the 68RFE.

One thing I don't like about the Allison is the ratios. The 3.10 first gear is a little tall and the .61 overdrive is too tall for the rear end they put in. I also think that the .71 5th is too tall and should be closer to .8.

I think the 6 speed Ford has a better ratio spread. I believe its a 3.97 first, .86 5th and .67 6th.

The current Aisin in the chassis cab is 3.74 first, .77 5th and .63 6th.

The 68 RFE 1st is 3.23, 5th is .82 .8 .63 6th.

Also, for 13 I think the Dodge just stepped up to the nicest interior. GM is seriously lacking. Hopefully they have something nicer for 14.

Now if dodge would only figure out that there mirrors suck, and go to "ford style". It feels like you are driving a car with them folded down normal.

Definately going to be checking one out when they hit the dealerships.

Impressive package all together. I too question why they only put the more powerful power train in the 3500. I also wonder if they will be easily found in single rear wheels or will a person have to get a dually? Both GM and Ford offer one motor for all of their platforms (commercial not counting).

I knew I should have waited another 6 months before buying a truck

Don't fret Dogmeat. You probably wouldn't have seen the savings you got. I too found out that GM has a big change coming in 2014 but bought my 2011 anyway. But I like it so I'm going to stick with it for now. I suppose there is always something better around the corner.

I'm the opposite. I like the Dodge tow mirrors. I think the SuperDuty and 06+ GM tow mirrors are hideous.

I like the dodge mirrors when extended, but they do suck folded in. Lucky for me, I only use the truck to tow, so it doesn't matter.

I feel like there may be some miss prints in that article which is weird because allpar is generally very accurate. In late 2011 models the 6.7 CTD was already rated at 350 hp and 800ft/lbs. And that carried over to the 12's as well. I don't understand why they would detune the motors.

G56 trucks were not HO versions so they weren't rated to 800.

AGREED

Why do they detune the six speed manuals? Is the clutch/tranny not capable of handling the power? I would be interested in going manual next time (with all the troubles i have had with autos lately), but not if it's detuned that much!

2011

Not to change the subject, but I have a 2011 dodge and I bought it used, and don't know how to determine what level of cummins I have, I have read its a 300hp 600 torque, and that its the 350/ 650, and yes I have read its a 350/800. so how do you tell what I actually have, any quick easy way to tell. It has the 6 speed auto transmission.
So Dodge guys tell me how to tell, thanks in advance.

Dang!
I really like my 07 5.9 still but the new ones are really nice looking, especially the interior, wow.
850ftlbs from a stocker is impressive too. That's about what I'm getting (I guess) with the Bully dog turned up, rollin coal everywhere.
Be interesting to see real world mileage #s with def now. Think the Cummins was keeping up already in the mileage dept without it.
To think I gave $30k for my Mega 4x4 with 10k mi on it, and that seemed like alot of money, the new fully loaded ones are going to be a $70k truck I bet.

Can't wait to get a '13 Ram......................in 2020!
