there is no magic mark for where to set them... it depends on rider weight, rider style, how you have the skid set up, and simple personal preference.
If you set it up so that you get about 1.5-2.5" of sag with you on the machine (measure it topped out, then hop on, bounce it around, and where it comes to rest is your sag point) That's a good starting point for most people. I prefer more in the 1" range, and I know trail guys who prefer more in the 4" range... but that's a good start.
