Hey Guys,

Was talking with a Cat factory rep yesterday and was telling him about our experience riding the new 850 Summit X on Thursday. He was telling us that he was told by a Ski Doo rep that the new 850 is a lower rpm motor that it is supposed to run 7500-7600 rpm? This seems odd, but has anyone else heard this?

It runs at 7900-8000 rpm.

Lower power means more torque and it will grunt further then a higher spinning mill making same horse power. The lower grunter will kick the other ones *** up

Not any lower than current Etecs. 7900-8000 rpm. Arctic Cat guy is just trying to get you worked up....

How ever cats M1000 was a low RPM motor(7500) Polaris 900 was a low rpm motor( 7500).

Not sure on cats old 900 as I was never around one when they were hot. But I think they were in that same 7500-7700 rpm.

Cats 900 mill was around 7300 to 7400 stock, with enhancement 7600 - 7700 and twin pipes 8100. They were known for heavy hit of power from 6500 up, when the power valves opened in basically one shot! Mike

I bet since you don't twist them as tight continuously all day long, the motor has a chance to live longer. It will be interested to see if the 850 lives any longer then the previous versions of the etec not to mention fuel economy has to improve slightly as well from not having to feed the engine.

The poo 900 didn't spinning very hard and it wasn't known for being durable at all. The cat 1000 also had its fair share of issues. I believe brp built this engine the way they did so they could wrap to 8000 and still have the durability.
