So I am working on getting my 03 KX 500 setup for this winter. I am getting excited. Have a new 17 Timbersled LT coming for it. I am powdercoating the frame kx green and getting a black and green wrap. I am shipping my motor out to Eric Gorr in a few weeks to get a 525 big boar and crank rebuilt. With porting and head shave. Got the hand warmers and new bars and risers as well as a custom seat for snow biking (little extra foam). Was kind of disappointed you can not get a auto clutch to work for that bike. With the new FMF knarley pipe and new carb the thing should be a monster. I will post some pictures when It starts to look like something. Is there anything I am missing? Looking for a little imput from some of you 500 two smoker guys.

Carb heat, t-stat, and tunnel cooler. On my cr500 it was neccesary for me to completely shroud the engine and pipe to keep temps up in the powder. That was the biggest pain. Constantly messing with my shroud to change oil etc.
You've searched the threads right? Lots of good info. I'm also a really big fan of my fastway adventure pegs although they are spendy.
You're gonna have a lot of fun this winter!!!

Fast way don't have pegs for the 500. Wonder if the 03 250 ones will work?

Did u wrap your pipe?

I didn't wrap mine. I heard kind of mixed results ( about wrapping). When it was powder I had my shroud all the way around my pipe anyway. It seems like the KX was a little different though. Might be they had less problems keeping hot. I'm sure more people will chime in soon.

I tried wrapping the pipe first season. It lasted a half season ish but I had to take it off in the warm spring riding anyways. Tried ceramic coating -- cracked about 8 inches from the head badly after a season.
My bike ran good either way, just had to warm the pipe up for a few seconds in deep pow.

Decided I'm going to run the bike with just a huge skidplate/pipe guard combo to keep the snow off it and maybe added floatation ??
Bought a 04KX250 chassis. going to make something up after I swap the motor.

dont bother wrapping the pipe. ran motors on the dyno with pipe in an icebox awhile back. theres alot of counter-intuitive things going on, but from what i saw, pipe wrap will not help anything. did come up with some new pipe designs though...

if you have the lectron 44 start at 5.2XL @2.044 and the pj 1.5 turns out. thats probably where it will come set at, which is bang on.

Run a tunnel cooler with the Lt.. I would not even start the season without it .. especially with the big bore

Have that and the stat are what makes the metered carb run like a top... Stable engine temps are their friends

Do you just run a cooler or radiator as well?

Just a cooler .. be it a snowmobile one from i believe a cat 580... Only gets a little warm in llaaaaaaaaatttteeee spring have to go up a 10 mile road... Need ice scratchers... Also for an auto clutch you can always do an efm clutch... I have been pleasantly surprised with the one we have on an 85 ....

Started to tear down my bike. Sent my plastic off to be wrapped yesterday. My motor is going in to Have a new crank, big boar 525 and be completely reworked and compression lowered since I have decided to add a boss boss system to this build. Hopefully I can get the frame and forks in for rebuilding and powder coat sometime this week.

So what was the conclusion on the compression for Nitro? I am very interested in this...

Shall we race to completion? Loser has to drive to ride with the winner?

Looking good! How much did your motor cost to ship? I just spent $140 mailing mine to thumper racing. 90 lbs of motor and parts in a cooler...

Let's do it. Maybe we should just meet at the big dog shoot out this winter. I want Toby's title. Only cost $36 to ship. Got to love speedy delivery.
