Hey everybody,

I am looking at buying a new quad. I have it narrowed down to two.

2008 yamaha raptor 250
or
2009 can-am 250 ds

I dont know which one would be better.

4 stroke or 2 stroke?

If anybody has one of them please tell me how they like either one. Any info would be greatly appriciated.

thanks, xc_rider08

would, get alot more replys in fouled plug, but I would first suggest you dont buy a 250. get something bigger than you think you need. I bought a 350 raptor, i was fine but im alot happier with the 400ex i have now. get a 4 stroke.where do you live? Been toying with the idea of sellin the ex..

o ok. i will move it. i live in mandan, nd.

the 250 raptor is air cooled while the 250 ds is liquid cooled. which is better?

i want to be able to go ride in the mud and not after to worry about it. im not going to sink it in, but if its muddy where im riding i dont want it it over heat?

i guess for the 350. i really dont know. i dont want anythigin to big so that i hurt myself. i just want something to go play around with on a sand bar or on a trail. nothign to fast or powerfull.

So how old are you? I guess if you are a young kid with not much weight, you can get away with a smaller one, but if you are older and carry some weight on ya get a bigger bike. after a little while you will wish you had more power. get the 700.

Yeah I know what you mean. However, I have the Raptor 700 and I only weigh 175, and i would definatley not want any less power then I have. Especially if you ever go to some dunes some where, you are going to want all the power you can get. But hey to each their own. To me a 250 just seems likes a kids bike, but thats just me. I like as much power as I can get. But the 700 is more money so that has to be taken into account as well.

If you're 18 and 140 and depending on the type of riding you do (sand?) ....... I would definitely be going bigger than a 250. My son is 13 and I even have his 350 Raptor for sale as it runs out of power in the sand. I want to step him up to a 400 because remarkably , there is a big difference between the two. My buddy has a DVX 400 that my son has a lot more fun on in the sand. My .02.

i would go with the ds 450 i think it is the perfect amount of power and i would not go with the 450 yamaha cus they have a problem with the sleeve dropping down in the cylinder. both quadds have alot of bottomend but top out at about 65 70 mph (stock) and with a set of mud lites on either one of them they go great. another reason to go with the ds is that it is said to be one of the most race ready and performance inspired quads right from the factory. my .02
