I'm looking for an aluminum shovel for my HMK pack. Would prefer a D handle with a saw built into it but it doesn't seem like anybody makes one.

Any suggestions?

I'm looking at this one, seems nice.

If I decide to buy this one I need a separate saw I can carry in my backpack too, any suggestions there?

Haven't looked at them much but I seen this one. http://www.snowsafe.co.uk/product_i...ucts_id=155&osCsid=bcvt1p0a8a7nasi3ihb8854ld4

get the VOILE ones, there freaking idestructable, then get a fold out saw from the local hardware store, seen a few shovel saws break REALLY quick, i got a $20 ace special that has 2 hard seasons of sawing on it and is just a tad sloppy but still cuts like a champ!!

the D-handled Voile will move some snow for its size, and i have used mine to smash branches off a tree and all it did was hurt my hands and put about an 1/8" wobble in the end of the blade. best shovel you can buy.

I have a black diamond deploy thats all aluminum. It's great and you don't have to worry about the handle, you just pull it out and go. THe handle slides down inside the scoop so you don't have it hitting the back of your head or banking off of trees. I would definately recommend it to everyone.

The saw you linked is a snow saw, not a saw for cutting limbs/small trees. I am not an expert, but I imagine a wood saw can be used for cutting snow (igloos/blocks of snow), but a doubt a snow saw would work very well for cutting wood. Don't know for sure, possibly somebody here would have better/correct info. I personally carry the Gerber Gator Folding wood saw, very sharp and cuts very well, but the blade is weak. I just broke it three weeks ago, however it has lasted me about 7 years and was still sharp as ever. The replacements are about $5.

I had the voile, and just got the black diamond deploy, Very cool shovel with the handle that slides into the blade. Very quick to deploy and easy to pack

I just got a Viole and it is a really nice shovel. I did change out the saw blade though. The blade that comes with it isn't all that good for limbing. I used a Black and Decker "Ugly". It is a pruning blade with double row teeth like a Seirra saw. The blades are the same as a saws all blade. You have to drill a 9/32 hole in the new blade to allow for the roll pin which holds it in place in the saw handle.
