Looking Good Up High, Trail To Mineral Lookout Above Shoo Fly Is Great, That Was Sunday, At Least 14" Last Two Days.

4 Canyons Below Sheep Mtn On Wisherd Ridge Looking Better, Didn't Ride In To Look, Takes A Lot Of Snow To Ride That Boulder Patch, By Maybe New Years.

Ideled Through West Fork, Of Course Roads Lots Of Snow And No Tracks, Great Base, Now Got Good Dump Last Two Days, Should Be Able To Ease Along Cross Country, Not Yet Pin On The Hills Though

Can Trail Ride Up From Main Gold Creek Road Anywhere.

Anyone tried the ride to Seely or Blackmountain?

New Years and last week

Better every day over christmas. Rode last week end .......snow settled, clearcuts in West Fork and higher getting safer, you can go anywhere. By Sunday, lower elevations right off the road easy boondocking.

Any body been in the canyons..............5th canyon under Sheep mountain??

Ridge and ride into Mineral Mtn, as much snow as you need to go anywhere. Most snow anytime in the last 3 years. Most snow I've seen this time of year in maybe 6 or 7 years.

Main road plowed to 1st bridge across Gold Creek( 6 miles up ), so you can ride Black Mtn etc with a short hop from the truck. Unless they plow this week, caution with 4 place covered trailers.

Ridden Gold Creek at least one day a week for last 3 months...............snow's getting better and coverage real good up high. trip to Seely Lake for lunch at the Chicken Shack via Spook lake last Sunday. Bought 14" new heavy snow around the Spook lake area, no sign of any sled in the last couple of weeks. Big drifts and some good boondocking on the Belmont Lookout ridge going over. Didn't hit frest track unitl the end of Slippery John going into Seely on Sunday afternnon. 119 miles, rode last part of trip on the trail in the dark............too dark for safe cross county.

Broke trail into West Fork Cabin for lunch last week, section 19 a hoot playing on the hills, no tracks, lots of new snow.

Report from the CANYONS? Haven't heard anything for a couple of weeks.
Saw lots of rigs at the hiway...........usually WISHERD RIDGE 5th canyon guys, what's the snow like up there?

I rode Wisherd, to Shoefly and did some big loop last weekend and came out on the Westfork.

We came out of the trees on the WestFork divide and ran into 3 dudes we saw drinking Michelobe (out of bottles!!!!!) and wearing NMFHs said "where the heck did you guys come from"?

We just smiled and said...."from the trees." LOL

Who drinks beer when sledding....and who the heck packs GLASS bottles when sledding?
I guess the NMFH peeps do. LOL

West Fork.......Black Mtn

Feb 1, West fork got another 18" plus and snowing when we left, looking real good, rode into West fork cabin week end of 26th, broke out the trail, also trail from the saddle below Mineral Mtn into West Fork has been broken out several times to its easy on the casual riders. so you can ride the ridge from Shoo Fly to the West and drop to the right down into West fork.

Feb 3 rode to Black Mtn, wow, what a difference in 2 weeks, ridge drifts not too bad, lower clear cuts looking better, biiiiiiiiig cornices at Black Mtn, bowls down into Bowles meadows looking better. One guy in our group went out top of big climbs off Seely Lake road under Black Mtn, just ok, too many hidden wood out there yet for my tastes, all covered but still stuff lurking under snow on those big steep clear cuts.

Gold Creek to Seely Lake Via Spook

Made that ride last week, lots of new snow, drifts on
Belmont Look out not bad and lots of stuff covered, dropped off N face of Belmont to road to Seely, then 2 miles East up into old cuts and out through spook, around S. side of Placid/Slippery John and across the lake, lunch at chicken shack and home via Black Mtn. 126 miles. Better already than I've seen it late in the year for 4 or 5 years. Two much play area along the way and not enough gas or daylight.

we were in from lord henry and made just past spook in the old clear cuts when westmont lost his stator. never made it very high but the snow that we were in was kinda fluffy and your right about the lumber. probably hit it again in a couple weeks.

black mtn Gold Creek

went up the Black Mtn ridge on superbowl sunday, lots more snow since the early Jan ride to this area, cornice's are big along the top of ridge, really starting to cover up a lot of the clear cuts, trees been growing a lot though the last coupel of years.

Riding in about 18" of new fluff on Feb 3 on a 4' base, so nothing like the upper West Fork, but getting there, lots of wind, still blowing some of the ridge's bare and making tough going thorugh the drifts.

the Road up Gold Creek getting narrow , running out of places to put snow, still parked at gravel pit no problem.

Was up there Monday ...by Spook , up to Golds and back Black mt. Was good base with some fresh powder and snowing half the day off trail most anywhere you want to go minus a couple windblown slopes.

Sun !!!

This last week with the sun and settled out snow has made Gold creek and surrounding area's some good sledding.

Friday: up backside of Black Mtn out of Gold creek , easy go, long hill and fast way up and over, road the ridge off Gold Peak east and down across to trail to Seely Lake ( trail was freshly groomed ?? what ever don't know what that was about ) and cross county on east into new burn and new logging clearcuts spook lake area, you could go any where and we did , creek bottoms parabolic and creek easy to cross, what fun. With speed you go anywhere, 4" of nice fuzz to make for soft easy going.

Sat. Same conditons West Fork Gold creek, fingers, intermitten sun, called my bud riding the Lolo area, flat light, great all day east of town, couple of snow flurries, snow still soft surface with base.

roads better and more parking options, drive to Gold creek meadows no problems even the bigger trailer.s

Rode West Fork...........1 set of tracks all day Sunday, climbed out of West Fork back onto the Mineral Trail via nw clearcut and hard snow in the trees, real steep but do able.

Road getting muddy down low, but more places to park.
