Has anyone else noticed that this "new" motor is basically a copy of the suzuki with updated electronics, fuel and oil system?
Still a laydown, bore and stroke looks to be the same ect. To me this a great thing, everyone can agree the suz is great engine. If all they did was refine, update and start building it in the USA, it should be a winner.

800 C-TEC

I'm sure the engineer purists will argue that on technological points, but I agree & that's a good thing; I own 3 Suzuki 800's, a '10 M8 a '11 CF 800 & a '17 MC 800, Great engines. Hopefully the new engine will be equal or better than the '10/'11 800's @ 163 HP! In '12 Cat pulled the timing back on the 800 Suzuki and lost 8-10 HP to at least 2016; the 2017 MC has different mapping; have not seen a dyno on that model yet nor the 800 C-TEC; It should be interesting!:juggle:

I must be an engineer purist then because DSI and side exhaust ports are enough of a change for me to consider it significantly different. I don't see the other manufacturers using those technologies...

I still have not seen anything for the weight of the new 800 motor. When the new c-tech 600 came out cat claimed it was 10lbs lighter than the 600 it replaced. I would think cat would advertise the new 800 c-tech as lighter as well. Even if it was just for the fact they lost a couple spark plugs, wires and coils.

They said in a vid it was 17lbs lighter than the 16 SnoPro and about 7 lbs lighter than the 17 Mountain Cat. Hard to tell what's chassis/panels and what's engine though.

From the different things I've read the mountain cat tunnel was 5lb lighter, new gas tank is 5lb lighter, new side panels dropped 1lb, driveshaft and brake caliper are 2lb (?) lighter. 17-13= 4lb that was lost from somewhere else.

Can you explain how you know the 16 ecu lost power? I've never heard that..

Look back at the published dyno numbers (AmSnow & others) for the '10 & "11 Suzuki 800 HO ~163hp vs the dyno numbers for the "12 & up 800HO at ~!54hp (AmSnow 2016 NY Shootout) In '12 AC issued an update flash for the '11 800 HO to address the octane code warning on some of the sleds. I did not do mine, as I wasn't having issues; the re-flash pulled the timing back to minimize the detonation. "My seat of the pants dyno" tells me that my '10 & '11 800's run stronger than my '16. It has been stated on here that the '17 MC 800 Suzuki HO got an updated mapping. I haven't got enough seat time on mine yet to tell, although the 8T drivers have definitely increased the track speed. Guess it would take a side by side race to tell, not accounting for differences in tracks, clutching, etc.

I'm with you.

My 2010 felt a good bit stronger than my 2016.

Anybody stick a 2010 ECU in a proclimb yet? :D

DSI , SDI, CFI poteto potato. It is all the same. Not much new stuff, but the piston slot to lube the wrist pin bearing is a good design. Mixing the oil in the fuel line, good idea.

In 2007 Rotax released the 800R engine. It did already then have staged exhaust valves, and separate valves for the wing port.
On the 800 R they would not close wing ports fully, only partly.
On the MY 2015 Polaris Rush (Same engine as in the 2016/17 Axys rmk) they use valves that fully close the wingport.
I assume the new Doo 850 also close ports fully.

It is a good design yes, but nothing new.

I believe it was a pipe design that made the difference in power for 2012 with peak power near the same just lost 10 hp in the midrange

My 2010 definitely runs stronger than both my 15's. Motor is very snappy and pulls hard until it runs out of clutch on top end. 15's seem Lazy from mid to top RPM.
