WA to B.C.
All I know is that I started the season with 35 gal of bulk oil in 5gal jugs and way too many of them are empty for how many miles I logged on the 18’.

Can’t even run a full 4gak Jerry can without the oil light coming on.

My guess is they turned up the oil going to the bottom end to slow down the engine failures. My 17 did not use as much oil

Yes, both 794cc.
I measured every oz. of oil i used for 850miles, i was concerned about longevity with the engine using about half as much oil. Not concerned anymore.

I'm still concerned for you, but if it proves to work long term then you get the best deal. I still think that it's important to note 5 mpg is some real hard riding. As a comparison, hard trail riding is 10 mpg, and 5 mpg is hard off-trail riding. So if your getting 5 mpg off-trail then you're on the throttle... a lot!!!

Here is the kicker. If you're getting 48:1 @ 5 mpg, what you are getting @ 10 mpg or 15 mpg??? If you tell me it's the same Fuel to Oil ratio for 10 and 15 mpg then we have a bigger problem, because oil on a two stroke migrates more as rpm and load increases. In other words if your getting ~50:1 at 5, 10 and 15 mpg, then it's getting too little oil in one range and not enough in another.

I understand that you measured every once of oil, but I would take another measure of the fuel consumption as well because it doesn't add up. The Arctic Cat 800 DSI isn't a small engine, and it's output is up to par with Polaris and Ski-Doo, plus or minus a few Hp, but nothing significant. Word of caution with that little oil, avoid running the belt too hot and keep it well below 200F. Those guys who blow belts every 50 miles on their 850s are heading straight for lower end problems. Crank bearings can't last running the clutches at 300F+, let alone blowing belts at wot.

yakima, wa.
2018 Belt stays below 200°f even when im getting 4mpg. 2018 cat clutching is damn good.
My 14 cat with 16 primary runs 220-235°f climbing in deep snow, belts don't last long, 250-300miles....
Yes, i watch my belt temps while i ride.(pic)

Check my fuel milage every trip, oil every 2-3trips. Good to have a base line so when something changes u may catch it before it becomes catastrophic.

Shirley the handheld unit to see what it is after you are done wouldn't be nearly as beneficial as the one monitoring during the pull.

Only thing that concerns me is that when I tried an EGT guage once upon a time, it got all fogged up in no time from underhood steam.

I could see one of these on my machine if I was having any troubles at all!
(and maybe even before)
