I presently have a G4 with a 154 x 2.5 on it , we get lots of snow and have elevation challenges as well .

I feel that the sled would be more capable in a wider array of environments with a lower lug and higher gearing.

I would like to try a smaller lug track and gear it up to attain some more speed, there are a lot of choices in the 2.86 pitch.

I need to research the 2.86 driver sleds to get a better idea of what the gear ratio should be.

Has anyone done this ?

You can run 20-45 gearing on the summit with 2.5" track no problem. Hits 92 on speedo topped out, but I always back off to 75-80 mph if I'm cruising for a distance. I run Dupont hyfax and keep the scratchers down. 1300 miles so far, and no lug damage whatsoever. If you sell your 2.5" let me know.
