I see a 2015 summit with a 872 for a good deal. Would that be a good idea to pick that over the new 850? I have read great things about that 872 motor. The way I see it the 872 might out horsepower the 850...

I had an 872 on my 15 t3 and I was very underwhelmed. The stock 850 is so so much better in every way in my opinion and the gen 4 package vs the xm is worth the upgrade even if the power wasn't there. Go Gen 4 for sure

I personally ran the 872 on three different years of machines 14 Summit x 162 X3”, 15 Summit X T3 174, 16 Summit X T3 174. All ran flawless, each year ran better than the year prior. Power was good, torque better.

Having said that the G4 just as good on power. But the chassis is the deal breaker, just that much better.

Just switched from a 2016 XM to a 2019 850...the new chassis is ridiculous and crazy fun. I actually thought the XM was awesome but this is another level!

The G4 is so much better as far as chassis, I would ride a 100 horse G4 before a 200 horse XM. The chassis is SO much more capable.

2016 XM 872 T3174

I actually have a 872 174 for sale also,872 power vers the 850 hands down 872 beats it every time either on the road or on the hill, both are clutched very well.....
But yes the chassis are different, even doing the forward post mount on the XM ( witch helps even more ) the G4 is a easier chassis to flick around....

But then it comes to the $$$$ factor....

2016 XM T3 174" 872, 2000ish miles ( 1000 on 872 kit ), Diamond S Ti can, Munster ski stiffeners, 8" bar riser, innovate O2 gauge, Grip N Rip belly stiffener, Ride on cover included ( not the best shape though )
$7000.00

The one I have my eye on is a 16 t3, 163 with 1100 miles for 5950, tempting hu? I don't want a huge track, I'm 155 pounds.

Are there any bugs with the 17's? Since its the first year of 850? What the difference between the 17s and the 18s?

If all the updates are done the 17s are fine. I came offan XM, but after riding the G4, no comparison, I could't believe how much better of a machine that it is. Throttle response is crazy instant, and the chasis is , like already stated, ridiculously fun.

Go with the G4.

I’ve had four 872 in the XM. I have a g4 now. If money is an issue for you that XM and $6000-7000 cash in your pocket vs an 18 SP holdover is a hard decision. Stock G4 has better low and mid range power, I ride my G4 around on 1/4-1/2 throttle MOST of the day, it has GRUNT. You can also get to the same places and ride the same lines on the XM as a G4 it’s just not as easy but for the most part it’s different more than worse.
I’d buy an18 or newer with updates over a 17 unless the 17 had ALL the 19 updates. You get a belt burned you’ll have to update it. BTW I rode my 872 XM a full season longer than I thought because money was tight. All my buddies had 850s and I didn’t miss any of the fun or get left behind even once.

Well looks the the g4 wins without a argument here, what hoping the g4 wasn't that much better so I could save the 2000 dollars getting the xm over the g4. Here's the thing, I can afford the g4, but I live in the flatlands of SD so I don't get to ride in deep pow all that much

Last year a friend of mine I ride with took a 14 summit and big bored it (trygstad 872) along with a bunch of other goodies. Shocks, skid, clutching, all kinds of money dumped into this sled. To make a long story short he ended up selling it mid season because it wouldn't even touch an 850. Granted it wasn't a 3” track.. but it was still a 163. Go with a G4 if you can swing it!
