Hey guys, new to forum, new to Idaho, looking to buy my first sled.
Located a 1995 Arctic Cat 700 EFI, new skids, small tear in seat, otherwise looks great. Owner says it runs great. 2800 miles.

Used google and found mixed reviews.

What are your thoughts on this machine?

I'll trail ride mostly.

What are they asking for it?

I am a Cat guy but for some reason I just don't care for anything cat made older than an 03.

What is your budget? You can pickup some pretty good used stuff under three grand.

My guess is they want around 2K for this sled and for 2500-3000 you can have 10x the sled.

Twin pipes, I think it was in the 140 hp range. Could be EFI with a battery that you have to make sure its charged in order to start. Steel frame, heavy in the front. 136 1.5 track I think was stock, they may have done some modding to make it longer and deeper lug with smaller drivers. Like stated above you should be able to find a 01 or newer MC 800 900 that will run circles around that wild cat for 2000 or so. Better yet would be a 05 M7, I have seen those with 6000 miles still running strong.

140hp haha, dont give that motor that much credit. More like 120ish on twins, older EFI can be a pain if it starts to go hay wire.
That 700 wasnt something cat was every proud of.

If you want something with a tough motor find a 04+ F7, all the 03s I have seen beaten and hardly run the bulk heads fall apart on.
Ms are nice also, in 6/7 are good and will do laps around the zr 700.
If the sled was selling for $5-600 I would entertain it tho for a beater, but if it were me i would look more into the zr 500/600 there fast also 98+.

For $700 that would make a great first sled. The 700s aren't too bad. Mines been going at it for over 10k miles and just recently did i have to do the top end.

I would look for a 98 or newer Powder Special 600. You should be able to find one for about the same $ as the Wildcat. The Wildcat has a heavy front end, the engine doesnt make very good power for a 700 and it likes to eat up cluches. If your budget allows it try to find a 1M 800/900 chassis instead. I've seen lots of these sleds on ksl.com for around 2K, much better chassis than the older ZR1 and ZR2 chassis. You may think you only want to trail ride now but later on you will want a sled that can do some boondocking too! Not a Wildcat 700. Good luck, Sprocket.

If you can come up with a few hundred more. I would recommend trying to find an 97 - 98 Polaris 700 RMK. If you look around you can find them for $1,000 - 1,200 and they are twice the snowmobile.

Look for a good 96-03 powder special/mtn. Cat both 580 and 600 or go with an 800. KSL Classifieds always good sleds on there for $500-$1000! Either way GOOD LUCK!

this came by surprise..... but I'll take them. My kids are 14, 12, and 9.... so these will be nice to have around.

I agree with the guys talking about the Polaris and Doo 670 ho or non they both work great.
Cant leave yamaha out tho there 6/7 triples held there own for years and far lighter then cats triples and sound better with pipes IMO. I have a few buddys who knocked 10,000miles with zero rebuilds on the old yami's.

But the polaris will be the cheapest, Doo is right there and you dont have to worry about Reeds much simpler motor and make great power and still mile the crap out of them.
But all depends on seller, I have seen in my area both sleds still asking $3000.
Stay away from the polaris Mono triple XLTs, hard to make good power out of them without spending tons of money.

Not sure why the ZR2 is ruled out tho, only difference i can see is plastic and shorter arms from the ZR3. I rocked the ZR2's for years with a 600 and 720 mod motor, I liked the look of the ZR2 front plastic and the price was right.
