Taking wheels off of a trails west trailer

Ok I feel like an idiot but I there doesn't seem like there is enough room to get the tires/wheels out from under the trailer as the outer edge hangs down past the wheels. I have tried jacking the trailer up in different spots and there is just no room. I had to deflate my tire to put it back on because it wouldn't clear the hub and wheel studs. Thanks for any help!

Even if you jack up on the frame and not the axle it still wouldnt come out?

Yes I jacked on the frame. I was thinking the whole axle must need to be off the ground since they are torsion axles?

When I change the tires on my trailer with torsion axles, I just drive the tire that I'm not changing up on a 4X4 block and it raises the tire to be changed off the ground enough for removal.

I had the whole side of the trailer way off the ground and there was still no room to remove the wheel

The problem with the trails west trailers is that the side of the trailer hangs slightly below the top of the tire making it a tight fit to get back in. I had to jack my trailer way up to get the angle right to get the tire back on. I need to install different center caps with the rubber plug to access the ez-lube hubs to grease them instead of having to remove the tires to get the access to the grease zerk.

My Mirage trailer is the same way. I had to deflate tires when I wanted to get them off and on. It’s definitely a pain to get them out between the lug bolts and the frame. Just to close.

If what you guys are saying is true, there should be some engineers fired.
That is not acceptable. Sounds like recall territory to me.

Agreed...it sounds like changing a tire with basic tools road-side is not possible....? How can that be?

I spoke with the guys at Trails West and they confirmed there was a problem for the first couple years and they have since lifted the frame above the axle. <div>Looks like I will need to do this mod. Mine is a 2009</div>

That's something that the company should do. That way, any future problems arising from this modification is their baby as well.

Total incompetence in design.
You wouldn't want to be on the other end of the phone if I couldn't change tire along the road in the middle of winter on a snowmobile trip.

I have the 13 tw cb edition. So i think its the same trailer. All i do is tilt the bottom of the wheel out first. Then pull it off at a 45 degree. Sort of like out 2” then tilt, then down and out. You have to jack it up enough to be able to go down with the tire. Don’t just jack it up enought to be able to spin , but more like 4”. Unless im missing something a tire change is really easy, but no it wont come straight off.
