The aluminum ring around my flywheel shattered taking out my staiter. What's the ring for and is it something that needs to be put back on?

it is the windage plate. as it spins the fins grab air and it cools the stator. i have been told the 900 stators are week as is so i would recomend putting a new one on. if the coils on the stator get to hot they will create more res and in turn you will more than likely run into problems. on the bad side i have not seen a part # for just the plate...
