It's just a heat shield I took mine off due to the annoying raddle! Im not sure if it will affect anything or not but mine seems fine!

Isnt the heat shield required to keep temps up inside the pipe??

If you remove wouldnt you want to either wrap the pipe or ceramic coat??

id keep it on to keep temps in the pipe and also reduce heat under the hood. I had mine crack and was to cheap to buy a new one. took cv axle clamps and tightened it up so it don't rattle and drive u crazy worked great

I think they come that way from the factory! I've got three cats out there and all three look like that. Once I closed the hood and went riding it didn't bother me anymore. The heat shield does serve a purpose but the cheap insulating blanket they use is all gone by now, that would be the fine white dust that covers everything under the hood!!

It looks like Countrycat.com is going to get you for $50 for the upper shield and $64 for the lower, plus shipping. I'll sell you the whole deal with clamps off my 2010 for $15 plus shipping. Or if you're ever near Jackson Hole you're welcome to grab it.

Just take the shield off and have it ceramic coated. I used New Image Coatings in Minnesota do mine for $100. Clean look and no more rattle or dust

I took mine off too and had the pipe ceramic coated. Saves a couple pounds, looks cleaner and is cleaner without the insulation breaking down.
