What tool do I need to change the secondary spring on my 17 850

Special tool to compress the helix so you can remove the 4 bolts on backside.

If you like tools, get an upper gear holder too. I never thought I would find much value in this tool but it sure is nicer than jamming a screw driver to hold the upper gear in place. Plus you can drive the jackshaft out with it.

Another option...my favorite for the QRS.
You can also change the bolts out to regular hex-head to make it easier to swap helix without removing the whole shaft, although with this and the gear holding tool it only takes a couple minutes to remove the whole shaft.
