I had my 17 850 out today and was only able to run 60mph on a flat graded road. Was still pulling 8000 rpm just no speed. It’s the 165”. Anyone have any ideas?

Did you get the '17 updates? If so, you may have gotten lower gearing.

I had the updates done. I’ve ridden it 3 times this year and the loss of mph wasn’t noticeable till the last ride. My primary clutch doesn’t look like it’s been closing all the way. Fresh belt marks are about 3/4” from the top of the clutch. My clickers are on 2 cause I usually ride around 10,000 ft. I never have my mph showing so don’t know what it usually does. Seems like when I first got it in breakin mode it ran mid 70’s. I always use my tach/elevation screen.

ground speed

My 17 154 went 82mph on flat ground before updates
Now after updates it goes 78mph on flat ground. You can reset your top speed by holding the button down while you are in the top speed screen. Hope this helps.

Take a felt pen and put a line on the inside of the sheaves from the bottom to the top, take it for a run. The belt will remove the felt marks, showing how much clutch your using.

Clutching....

Here is a pic of my clutch, it was in 3' deep powder
And untracked snow, #5 Is clicker 5 and #3 Is 3 and rpm
Was 8000. I'm down 2 teeth on top and top speed
Is 68mph. So it shows how it's smearing the belt but still
Wiping off the felt marks. If you try this on a tracked road it
Will wipe it ALL off......
I ended up on clicker #2 And adjusted rpm to 7900-7950rpm
And no more smearing marks.....

I think that the 17s had more issues than what BRP is admitting to fixing.
I rode my 18 175 3" yesterday on the lake, first ride. It runs SO much better than either one of my 17 Summits. (165 and 154.) Maybe I got two turds last year, but there is no compromise.
Riding the 18, I looked down and noticed the top speed of 61 and thought "When did I do that?"
SO I did a couple of runs, top speed was 75, and I backed out of it at that speed, it was still pulling hard. All I could think about was that 175 3 inch spinning that fast under my butt, lol. (And only 5 miles on the sled.) I don't think my 17 sleds would even do 60. At 45 or so they just felt like an anchor was dropped and the clutches were fighting each other.
No idea on belt temps yet, but so far things are much much better. Conditions on the lake were 6-8 fresh on top of ice/overflow.

You were definitely running at the max of your belt with the gearing if yah hit 75mph.

Trying to find Joeys Gearing Calculator...anyone have a link? I'm curious to top speed at stock gearing on 165.

This was taken from a pull at 8200' a few weeks back on a 175 G4 all stock on clicker three, top speed was 50mph and those marks go down about 1 inch.. 40% Breakin left

Rpm were bouncing between 78-8100rpm, so next ride we will try a few more grams, but over all pretty decently set up

Took it to the dealer. They changed the clickers from 2 to 3. No difference other than now it’s over reved at 8200. 63mph. Service department doesn’t seem very knowledgeable. Thinking the secondary spring is too heavy. It’s not shifting all the way out.

My clutches feel the same way. I hit about 50 and they feel like they’re fighting each other. I think I’m going to have to buy a clutch kit to get it right. Before the gearing change they seemed to work really well for a stock setup.

Yah, if your sled is doing it, you know what it feels like. Both mine were like that last year, and both ran hot hot clutches. 45-50 acceleration just stops and the whole sled feels like it is working very very hard. If I had the 17 sleds still I would get the full update from BRP then if no good go with DJ. I like that he took a full year to put out a kit, he told me last year that he wouldn't sell one without enough testing. His kits were amazing on my 16 sleds. They paid for themselves with belt life. :)

My bro has a 17 and he happened to look at top speed this weekend and he hit 77MPH.

I’m going to order the DJ kit. The dealer I bought it from service dept sucks. I told them it’s not shifting all to overdrive they told me it doesn’t have overdrive so I told them not to touch it and went and picked it up.
