I am always a model or 2 behind current due to my choice to limit the cash spent on toys. My IQ is great and the Pro rear suspension I put on it was a step up, but I want to make it my "buddy" sled and get a Pro. Piston issues? Was 2013+ better pistons? Fix it kit needed on what years? 2013 plus with belt drive?

Looking for an 800, 163" deal.

The 2015's were the last year and the best.

If you can find a snowcheck model they had some really nice colour combos and most SC'd would also have the big Walker Evans needle shocks (similar to Assault shocks). On that sled I would only worry about replacing pistons if it were a higher mileage unit.

The newer and lower miles the better. Also just keeping an eye on them for how they were stored. Polaris isn't great with electrical so if the thing sat and ate road grime and is all corroded under the hood id steer clear. the 13-15's can be had for pretty damn cheap and work really well. Hard to beat performance/$$ right now since the axys absolutely tanked the Pro market.

Great info. I’ll watch with new sleds coming someone may need to sell their pro

What do you mean “tanked”. I thought the new ones were well liked.

That's what he means....the Axys is very well liked, and with used Axy's now on the market, the Pro's can be had super cheap.

The 2011's and 12's were very good units, although my '12 had piston scuffing issues with the original monoblock. The '13's had the occasional driveshaft and drive sprocket broken bolt issue. My '14 had electrical gremlins from the get go, mostly all wiring harness connector arcing meltdowns. My '14 also broke a few lower sprocket bolts turning it into a suicide machine if you didn't bail soon enough when all hell broke loose. I'm not sure if Polaris really updated or changed much from '13 on except the support clamp on the driven end of the driveshaft. If you do find a clean unit and it has more than 2,000 miles on the stock pistons make sure you freshen it up. They never did update the ankle/leg breaking foot capturing devices they built:deadhorse:

Just an FYI, Pro-RMKs never came with Walker "Needle" shocks. Polaris started putting Walker "Clicker" shocks on 2015 snow-checked Pro-Ride Pro-RMKs and still do on snow-checked Axys Pro-RMKs.

Pretty sure the 15 snowcheck RMK’s had the larger shaft needle shocks ala the assault and the 2016 and newer Axys chassis had just the clickers with the smaller shafts as you describe. See here for more info from MH,

2011 and 2012 have thinner cylinder skirts and are more prone to failure with stock pistons 1800-2000 miles max.

2013-2015 had beefed up cylinder skirts and I have seen stock pistons last 2500 miles max

2015 machines started coming with Fuji cranks. Much better than 2008-2014 800 cfi cranks

Your last sentence is incorrect. Polaris switched fully to Fugi cranks in MY 2013. 1/2 of the 2012 RMKs had Fugi. Other half Mape.

And now the 850 is going to have Mape cranks? Actually all MY2019 800 Axys RMK sleds? That is what I heard... discouraging. Warranty or not. Heard of way too many Mape cranks breaking, lost one myself with about 3500 on bottom end. Had a friend lose one at about the same mileage. Mountain riding miles...

You should be good with a '12-‘15. ‘13 supposedly had some issues (drive shaft/QD belt). I ride with a flawless ‘13 that hasn’t had the issues the other ‘13 had, this sled gets rode hard but is maintained very well. I own a ‘14 that has taken a beatin’ and keeps going, but also maintained. You’re going to have those guys that get bad luck or just have something go out (ex: spark plug) and say that model year sucks. Preventative maintenance (top end 2k miles, grease, bolt check, basic cleaning, etc) is best way to make your sled stay fully functional.

FYI, a buddy picked up a ‘15 TD with 500 miles for not a bad price at all last month here in Wyoming. You should be able to find low mile pro for sale in oil and gas region since the market hasn’t really picked back up yet.

13-15 better pistons, better cylinders, better map, better running boards, better TPS connector. If you get QD— replace lower sprocket bolt with ARP bolt as preventative maintenance.

The '14 MY was the first year for the "potted lead" TPS sensors. The PN for a '13 and older MY 800 TPS sensors are all the same and doesn't state "potted lead". The '14 and newer MY 800 TPS sensors are the same PN and states "potted lead".
