Has anyone used a Pieps Freeride beacon? Whar are your thoughts on it? Thanks
Anyone use a Pieps Freeride beacon?

My personal thoughts would be that it is a good beacon to put on someone that you want to be able to find but that you know won't be finding you (a child or something). The pieps freeride transmits the signal fine, but searching is very slow and difficult. The price is nice, but with the pieps freeride beacon you get what you pay for, IMO.

I'm thinking about beacons for my kids. My wife needs one also but I want her to be able to use it to locate a another beacon. For the wife I think that a Tracker would be the best.

That's what I recommend for the wife too, Tracker. The price is still quite nice, and there isn't an easier beacon out there.

The fact that it only uses one AAA battery makes me uneasy. Wouldn't want to rely on that in a bind.
