Judge Sam Haddon has scheduled a hearing on June 22, 2012 at the Mike Mansfield Federal Courthouse, 400 North Main Street, in Butte Montana. The hearing will begin at 10 AM.
We encourage anyone interested in the HPBH winter interim closure to attend this hearing.
CBU filed legal action against Gallatin National Forest Supervisor Mary Erickson when she closed the HPBH WSA to winter historic use. When the HPBH WSA was created by congress, all established uses of this area were to continue. The HPBH consists of 155,000 acres of which all but 18,000 acres were closed to motorized winter use in the GNF Travel Plan decision.
After the Travel Plan was issued, Supervisor Erickson issued an additional interim order which closed everything except 1800 acres which is heavily timbered and non-ride able. CBU has challenged this interim order in court and this hearing will determine the outcome of our case. Please try to attend this important hearing.
