What bike do you have setup as a snowbike?

What bike are you using your snowbike kit on?

snowbie,

To be honest, for the riding terrain i'm starting to enjoy more, the 350 is right on the edge for not enough power. You really have to be on your toes and in the right gear to make it through the nasties riding hard and wide open throttle. In the deep snow, I find myself slipping the clutch frequently to let the R's come back up - and on the steep, left hand sidehills where you're carrying your foot off the peg, I haven't quite mastered dropping a gear since you can't get your foot back through the pile of uphill snow to the peg....
When we picked up the used kit, it was geared 13:17-16:16 which we just left alone, and I believe a little tweaking may wake up the torque of the engine allowing it to pull through harder.
The E-Start is very neat though we did put the optional kick starter on as well.
Most days, the hardest thing on the KTM is getting used to the ergonomics of the cockpit. The stock bar to seat to footpeg relation feels broad and "foreign" compared to the Suzuki or other motocross bikes. Perhaps the new Dungey KTM front end which mirrors the Suzuki's will change my mind aboard Team Orange bikes!

Awesome. Thanks for the detailed response. I was thinking either the KTM 500EXC or 300XC but I saw you on the 350 so that peaked my curiosity since that would be a better summer bike for me where I ride. I think I'll stick to either getting a 500 or 300 2 stroke.

09 kx450f with a 13 ts kit. recluse clutch, power bomb exhaust, FMF Q4 slip on. I have a 30 watt led light wired in. you have to turn it off to start the bike but after its running its fine. I have the big foot pegs also. I beat the hell out of this thing! I want a bit more power but im not shelling out 5k for a turbo. Any recommended power boost tips? im thinking of a big bore kit. is there a good place in Calgary? I bought my kit from fast toys in Kalispell so I might go back there. they were great to deal with.

If you were starting from scratch with bike and kit, what would you go with. I like KTM and ride a 450 xcw in the dirt. Would you go two stroke or four stroke? Would a 520 EXC 4 stroke be a good bike? There are some clean used ones around Michigan for $3000.

What does it take to get head light and hand warmers on my 09 kx450f. I know I probably won't be able to run both at the same time

I myself am looking for a snow bike and of course starting at the bike. Sort of looking at something used like a yz450f or the wr. what years are they fuel injected and is there a year to stay away from. Also is there a big difference between the YZF and the WR besides the lights?

Thanks ahead of time!

If building a snowbike without cost being a concern, what would you build?

I,m looking at a 2015 450FC as well., hows the setup work? good gearing and power?

The 450FC is great. We run one as one of our shop bikes. That being said, we also run a 2016 YZ450F, a 15' 250FC, and a 15' 350FE. Of all of them the YZ definitely has more down low power so it arguably makes a better snow bike, but the Husky 450 holds it's own and can almost always catch up once you get moving.
