Interchanging Voltage Regulators

Hey guys new to this forum so if I'm posting in the wrong spot i apologize but need some help with my sled. The voltage regulator went on the 09 dragon 800 we also have an 08 dragon 700 my question is can I take the VR from the 700 and put it on the 800 until the new one comes in or will it not work they look identical and have the same plug ins and I've been reading that people are putting VR on sleds from different brands so will this work or will it mess everything up
