Fyi, you can set your video settings to manual and open up your fstop (f5.6-7.1). It helps with zooming and not having to adjust your focus as much.
In full daylight f5.6 is conservative! Even stopped down to around f16 you should have plenty of light and depending on the focal length of the lens you are using you will have an infinite back focus distance and a very reasonable front focus (about 50-100ft)
So basically you will not need to focus at all as long as your subject is beyond a certain distance. Check out
this site to get an idea of how you can expand your DOF by stopping down which will eliminate your fast focus limitations.
Something like
this video monopod will help keep video stable and fluid while not taking up much space in a pack or on the sled. That one is kind of expensive but its just to give you the idea.
