700 RMK - 97 or 98 ???

How can I tell the difference between a 1997 700 RMK and a 98? I picked one up tonight (sold to me as a 97) but when I read the registration it's listed as a 98? Just need to know as I want to order some parts for it and need to make sure I order the right stuff.

Look at the date code on the Tunnel on the RH side. If its a 98 it should say 97 if its a 97 it will be 97.5 or 96 on the side of the tunnel.

Also, if the head is still stock, the 98 had a red top and I believe the 97 was purple.

The 700 decal is up by the hood on the 98 and down towards the bumper on a 97.

Purple head on the 97 is the easiest way to tell, hoods were teal colored to.

Weren't the heads on a 97 also kinda square shaped and 98 was rounded like the cylinder?

The 97 and 98 700's are identical other than the head on the motor, the color of the hoods and the color of the writing on the seat.. Every part from either year will interchange with each other.
