The 4 speed tranny's seem to be doing well. I think it can be a little more difficult for the 4 speeds to find optimum gearing for trail and boondocking but who want to road ride anyway. I personally haven't rode a 4 speed but I am sure Teal will chime in and can answer this question better than I can.

He does fine once we leave the road. He just doesn't have the top speed to keep up with a 5 or 6 speed bike on roads. Like Gary said, I think its harder for him to find the optimum gear. Suzuki's 4-speed is pretty bad about hitting nuetral too, or at least that one is, my 07 was the same.

He ran it with the chaincase sprockets reversed for a while, but ended up changing it back. He says he typically boondocks and climbs in 3rd and 4th, and has all the power he needs.

All in all, it works okay. A 5 speed works better.
