I think looking to the govt for oversight is a mistake personally. When was the last time we the people truly were able to hold our govt accountable for it's actions? I mean, I keep voting and yet we keep digging the hole deeper it seems.

The flip side obviously is allowing people freedom of choice and burdening them with the responsibility for those choices. I do get the side that doesn't trust the private sector, I really do but, I seriously doubt govt oversight is the answer. What has the govt ever done well?
Being spek'd as a libertarian Capitalist, it's fairly apparent where my leanings lie. I think trusting the folks in power to grant us our freedoms is a mistake.

I also feel that just reverting everything to a free market system sometimes creates some very greedy, unethical people. Capitalism unbridled by compassion is just as evil as socialism. But legislating compassion is something that just does not work.

It's gotten to the point where the government needs oversight, not the private sector.
Our wallets are the oversight of the private sector.
I agree with this for the most part. The government needs to be radically reined in.

The thing that makes the wallet oversight shaky at best is the Walmart's of society that are pushing down retail prices, yes, but also pushing Mom & Pop businesses out of the market & turning them into door greeters (aka loss prevention). Walmart is a far cry from what Sam Walton created. Some of the largest corportations have the lowest ethics in the world.

Jean-Luc, Just curious...because of the name, are you an American?

Jean Luc Picard is captain of the starship Enterprise. It is the name of a TV/movie character...

His bio says he is from Idaho, which I am pretty sure is still in America.

I'm not a Star Trek fan, so I wasn't aware of the name.

Yeah I see it says his location is Idaho...but people do immigrate here from other countries.

They're just out to find closet radicals. They should really use their spell checker (based on American spellings). The questions had a lot of assumptions and preconceived notions though.
