Looking hard at a new machine for this year. I have found some good deals on 08 m1000's but the 09's seem a lot higher in price. Must be a difference in them but what am I missing?? FWI Have a 04 1m 900 that I have ridden since 04 so I am kinda out of the "loop" on the m1000's but I think its time to upgrade. What do you guys/gals think.

Thanks

Here's the little I know.......

Better boards and tunnel cut, Power Claw track and two wheel kit as well as a better looking skid. All this and one year newer is worth quite a bit.

The 09 has electronic reverse and also a better intake system. I am not sure but I believe the 09's also run a lot cleaner than the other years. I am not sure of that but if I am wrong I am sure someone on here will correct me.

Running Boards are the same. Here are a few of the big changes:

1.) Electronic reverse (loose about 7-8 pounds of rotating mass)
2.) Better tunnel extension
3.) Adjustable bars
4.) Powerclaw track (a must have)
5.) Better ECU programming
6.) Different rails w/ inside wheels only

I think that's about it.

stock for stock the 09 is a much better machine. It takes quite a bit of coin to make the 08 as good as an 09. So the 09s are worth more in addition to being newer for resale.

These are the main things making the 09 better if you are comparing fairly stock units:

1. engine reverse lighter and much stronger and more dependable than 08 gearcase set up
2. new rear tunnel design lighter and better in deep snow
3. powerclaw track and two wheel rear end (way better stock track)

the 09s ran very well stock. There is an update for 07-08 completely stock units to address runabillity and make the exhaust and intake more like an 09 model.

I think the 09 is 22-25 lbs lighter. I have an 09 m1 162 and a 07 m8 162 , and the m1 feels 100 lbs lighter when boondocking through tight trees. I can do things on the 09 i would never try on the 07 , it just sidehills way better. Pay the extra money for the 09 .

There is no comparison and I would pay $2000 more for a 09 maybe more. I had a 07 that beat all the 08's with the same mods and the 07 with mods will not go where the 09 would stock.

Ok thanks guys, that is what I was looking for. I had heard about the better reverse but not the track and other things. I will keep looking for a 09 or newer....

Here's a comparison in the diamond drives. I weighed them when I did mine. Makes a HUGE difference in the response of the sled since it is all rotating weight! Over 10lbs..........

aaron, have always wondered how much is the difference if you pull the reverse actuator motor, seems like that thing has got to weigh 5lbs at least...

I came off a 04 900 M1 and bought a 08 M1000. Never really liked the 1000. Really felt heavy in the front end. I geared it down and that helped some but never could make it "light" feeling. I've since bought a 2010 M8 and like it much better. I think if I were you I'd do like most here have said and try and find an 09. Good luck.

imho

Get what you can afford and ride the hell out of it. A small amount of rider ability will make up for a huge amount of snowmobile.

Couldnt agree more. I love seeing a great rider on a clapped out m7 ride circles around fancy modded out sleds. Happens more then a lot of guys would care to admit... Get the 08 and spend your extra cash on gas and a few more days off work to ride more.

I imagine by now you're getting used to it, just good to see you finally admit it.:face-icon-small-coo

True but the 09 is a whole lot more sled and you could work your a$$ off with a 08 then some dipchit on a 09 could keep up and not be tired, the m7 is great(and I've seen them go everywhere until I got a m1000) but no where near what a 09 m1000's is capable of.

I had an 07 m1000 and now i have an 09 m1000. I love my 2009 m1000. It is hard to believe the two sleds can handle that different. I would never go back and ride a 07 or 08 m1000. I you can not afford a 2009 or newer m1000 in your price range buy a 05 or 06 m7.
