So an 18 165 just needs the 19 top gear. Those should be readily available.

Ace

Did a little research and found some info to share.

154" track has 21T 51T

165 has 21 -53

There are lots of 53 gears out there. It was a BRP fix for belt issues on a 154 factory belt failure in 2017 ;as told by a dealer.

19T called several places NOT in Stock.

Retail dealer is over a $100 Local shops are around $80 and direct manufacturers are around $40

I just put a 19T in mine last night. Had one in the tool box from my 13 XM. I figured since I had one sitting there I might as well try it out. My theory is you never find anything that works better if you don't try anything different. I can swap it back in a half hour or so it I don't like it. Now we just need more snow so I can test it out.

Ben-Otis what is your engagement speed now? 3200?

As of last year I had 3200rpm engagement. There isn't enough snow right now to test with the new 966 ramps. I want to try them first and then remove the plastic cup and cut the primary spring if needed. My goal is to achieve around 2500-2600rpm engagement.

From what I saw in the shop, going from 990ramps to 966ramps without changing anything else, the engagement goes from 3200rpms to 2800rpm.

Will report when I test all the configurations.

Yup...i did 27-2800 rpm last season and i liked it for crawling around the trees. Then hit it, the track digs smoothly, pulls hard.
I know right? It doesn't blow the snow out the back and therefore doesn't point the skis skyward. Love low engagement. How did you get so low engagement? I don't have much p-drive tuning experience.

Got a chance to ride today in decent snow with 19/53 gearing (my sled is a 175). I was concerned that the gearing would be too low, but it worked great. I don't see a downside with the lower gears, but I can't say that it was far superior than the 21/53 stock gearing either. I didn't make any clutching changes. It pulled hard but I can't say for sure that it pulled any harder than the stock gearing. I'm sure it pulled at least as hard. Clutch temps seem to have been reduced but were still hotter than I would like and noticably hotter than my Axys 174, but comparable to my buddies XM. On the trail at the end of the day once I let the secondary shift out I was pulling 6700 RPM at 48 MPH which I thought was reasonable.

You may notice a difference in deep snow on a big long climb. Other sleds may fade and lose rpm where as yours should hold rpm's and pull away from the competition. It should be zingier. Is that even a word?
Keep up the good reports it's nice to hear everyone's experience and everyone can benefit!

I have a 19 Freeride 37 miles and the same thing. I have the updated recoil parts on order and will do the heat tape as well. I do have the nasty gravely bad bearing sound on deceleration... Worries me a little but I'm going to ride the bitch until it breaks. I love the sled these seam like small issues

SKIDOO retail for 53 gear 504153778 is $139.99

Dealer I contacted does not know of a 19T gear.

Are the chains 13wide?

Top gear 17T internal?

Bottom 32T internal?

$129 delivered OEM part 53 gear 504153778 from a shop in UT

Hmm...must be a newbie at your skidoo dealer. Every skidoo race handbook has all gear and chain part numbers (Except the 53). Want to know more than your average parts counter person, buy the 2019 Racing handbook 484 801 611. Loaded full of information. Im only parakeeting from it. Page 293~295 gears and chains. All pdrive ramps page 226~228

19 top gear is BRP 504152030

Everything is 13 wide gear nowadays. 15 wide is usually seen in drag racing and with a lot older vehicles.

The 53 bottom can only be got from a skidoo dealer and/or if someone you buy it from, they bought it from a skidoo dealer or if you have an account with the BRP race department.
