lithium batteries in BCA beacons

Just a note for everyone using BCA tracker Beacons, lithium batteries can NOT be used. I was doing a training course with some new snowmobilers this week and my beacon would not track other beacons accurately. My beacon would read .1 meters no matter how far the other beacon was away. Also the lights would only work when directly inline with the transmitting beacon.

I figured my beacon was damaged somehow but when calling BCA in Boulder, they confirmed the beacons are made strictly to use alkaline batteries. Mind Blowing!

The beacon still worked in the transmit mode.

Yeah, don't want to use Li/NiMH/NiCD/etc in a beacon... drain curves are way different between those batteries. Just spend the $ and throw alkalines in there....
