I will be buying a 146 if available. Keeping fingers crossed the 850 will have this option. 2.5 or 3in would be a dream machine. I have found over the years of riding in Colorado the shorter the track the better. Unless as stated above you are in 3ft plus of powder, which is a very small percentage of the ride days here. Curentley riding an AC 141 2.6 (800) making my riding buddies think twice about there mid-long tracks.

Honestly the only time the 165 will be the best or needed sled is the super bottomless days of 4 foot fresh and maybe climbing out of super steep terrain w deeper conditions. 90% of the time I feel like the 154" will get it done. I own the 165 and I really am loving it but I'm gunna pick up a 2018 154 which I will prob spend most of my time on unless it's like I said super deep powder days.

I like my 165 alot, but.. Fell in love with the 154 instantly when I got to try 1

Just looking for more input yet as snowcheck season is fast approaching. I love my 2015 X 154" but I have had hills that I couldn't quite make it up after several attempts. I know if was on a longer track I probably would have. Or even the G4 154". Are there any downsides to going for the 165" vs the 154"? Those that have ridden both, how much easier is the 154" to toss around?

I didn't read all, but having a 165 with 200 miles and 154 with 550:
Out of the box, 165 is a much better sled. The 154 is a horrible POS wheelie monster that will shoot you into a tree before going through them. Unpredictable and scary to ride. I hated my 154. After a few bucks ($150 or so) and a little bit of time, the 154 is a darned good sled. I am impressed. The same mods to a 165 make it that much better also.

So which would you say you prefer and why?

What did you do for $150.00 or so that made it a darned good sled?

Back to revisiting and a year old thread now..!

It's down to decision time now however....

I really really love my 154 T3 so unless someone can come up with a very good reason to go with a 165 there will be another 154 in the shop this fall.... :)

154 unless you are just into straight up hill climbing. The 154 needs the skid to be changed and then it will be the most fun sled you have ridden.

Just rode my buddies 154 and is definitely way more fun than my 165. It will swap ends on a dime. There were no 154 out there when I bought mine. I might have to get an 18.

What doo you mean by skid "changed?" Thanks.

I was really wanting a G4 154x3. But after hearing some conflicting reports on the 3" track/skid erratic behavior. I'm now leaning towards 165x3. Couple more days until trigger pull time. It's a big investment and trying a longer track length is appealing.
Bulkhead and clutch issues seem to be getting sorted out. So I'm outta excuses.
Maybe adding toms emotion to either sled would help. Something to consider after getting some miles on my stock 2018.

The stock skid is a wheelie monster and not very predictable. I run Tom's on both my sleds and it mellowed out the squirrelyness that the stock skid seems to have. Also makes it so you don't have to crank down the limiter strap like I see so many doing. For around $2,500 you can have an awesome suspension all the way around.

If you are really that worried about the front end lifting a bit:face-icon-small-hap the Zollinger rear link will do all you need for 155 bucks. We boondocks a lot in areas with creeks holes etc -- I like the lively frond end to get me over stuff instead of driving into them, of course climbing there will be a trade of,for me it is manageable.

I rode a G4 154x3 a week ago. I'm on a 2015 summit x 154 with DJ clutch kit and ramps. I'm 185lbs before gear. Anyway that G4 almost threw me off a few times, you lean to a point and then after that the thing just falls over instanty. Especially of you burp the throttle, it just dumps on its side right now. It would take some getting used to. Felt sketchy for the 20 minutes I rode it but after a person adjusted to it, it would be an effortless ride. The clutching felt similar to my sled with the clutch kit, felt good. Power felt slightly increased and was more noticeable as you let the sled build speed, keeps pulling up top. I'd definitely go 2.5" on the 154. People say the 165 is easier to handle than the 154 XM. And they also say the 175 is a percent or 2 harder to handle than the 165, which is nothing.
