Chewy,

I can't tell from your photo on the rail tips but how much did you cut off the rails? Did you cut the tip of the rail caps too? Have the kit on order and looking for as much advice up front that I can get. Thanks for posting up the pictures and recommendations!

I did not cut anything on the rails. I just cut down the rail cap.

Here are a few final pictures that show how I attached the brake guard and the new MC skid plate. You will notice AC really trimmed down the skid plate from the previous version; on the clutch side you can see the two holes for the original skid plate. On the can side there is no coverage in front of the outlet. I believe the 17s have a plate there that protects the can outlet? Also I had to add a couple extra bolts near the brake and chain case covers to get the skid to fit better. Not the best fit in those areas. The new plate does fit well with pushed in panels, no trimming needed. On the clutch side start with drilling holes and bolting down at the footwell and work your way forward. I drilled all the holes and ended up redrilling a few so it fit right. It seems like the lower panels might have a slightly different contour on the MC.

Getting the 3" in with 8 tooth drivers isn't bad....just wait til you need to take them out again

Just did this last night as I start my conversion. Wow, that was a tough slug. It took two of us and a few mallets to make it happen!

Soapy water in a spray bottle helps the drivers slide around on the track WAY easier.

You'll be pretty happy you went through all the work.
Take your time cutting the tunnel and it'll be hard to tell you did anything.
Having a small 90 degree die grinder worked good for me.

The job is a dandy, it takes a lot of time to do it right. I also added a belt drive at the same time. However, it's worth it. Today I demoed the new 2018 Mountain Cat for 20-30 minutes and I must say I actually preferred my 2015 with these mods over it.

The chain case side required a series of 500 small cuts. Slow, trial and error. All of the cutting grinding, and testing took about 3 hrs.

My favorite tool for this is the Milwaukee Hackzall. Sweet little tool!

Test fit.

knh208,
Test fit the brake assembly and drive shaft.
I had to make bigger cuts to get the brake assembly to fit on the left side.
If your going belt drive I also had to make bigger cuts on the right side to get the belt drive sproket on the drive shaft.

I bought the stock 2017 Mountain Cat chain case and brake covers for my 2015 and I must say they have been holding up nicely to the abuse they have been getting.

I'm going to be starting the conversion on my 14 m8 in the next couple of weeks. I have the TKI belt drive on my sled now and will be updating to the MTN Cat belt drive. Looking through the instructions I see you have to tap the jackshaft on the 17's for the bolt to hold the top gear. From the instructions it sounds like the 17's had a hole, but no threads. On my 14 it is already drilled, but with a smaller bolt. For those that have installed this on the pre-15 jackshaft do you just use the supplied tap to re-thread the 14 jackshaft?

I am going to put the one I have on a friends sled. Will the top gear that came with the MTN Cat kit work on the 14 jackshaft?
