Yes you will have to remove the seat to get to the filter in the tank. There are two machine screws at the lower front and two nylock nuts rear under the tunnel and one elect connector and the seat is off.
As for the filter there is a black rubber cap with a aluminum tube feeding the fuel line. The rubber cap will come off after you pick the retainer spring up and off. Then the works should lift right out.
