Yes being that old that is the first thing I would check, have seen that red hose from the tank fitting to the strainer basically dissolve in about 8 years with our gas here in AK.

i replaced all the lines and pickup during the build but the tank was a little well messed up. it had alot of hardened varnish in it. i cleaned it for three days with various products and the carwash twice. i bet there was still some small chunks in there now they plugged the pickup, line, two filters, and pump. worst case scenario anyway
