If there are no design issues, this could be the end of dealing with crank runout issues and crank failures in general. Literally 4-stroke longevity and low emissions without the weight penalty.

Sounds like 165 hp not our high hopes of 179. Still looks good though.

Only thing I'm really scratching my head on is how they claim 10hp more than current at 165... Don't they advertise 163 or something right now?

I know they have made claims of 162 HP on the 800 e-tech so 50cc for 3 hp

That's an impressive engine. A true "game changer" (term used far too often lately IMO).

Doo took the 2 stroke and CVT (talk about centralized rotational mass) out of the 50's and into the present.

Hope that 50cc's and 3 hp brings back the torque from the old 900's.

Thing should have some grunt for sure.

Will be interesting. So far this is looking like a killer package to modify. She looks soft in tune up and brick poo house tough. Should be fun!!

From the lawyers standpoint, Doo never publicly said how many HP the 800 E-tec made. What they did is state that Dyno-tech said it made 162 hp or whatever it was. A technicality to be sure, but that way they would have a valid defense if they were sued for false advertising if someone got a lower number if they dyno'd it, since they were just quoting someone else.

Why did they go to 850cc, is that so they can maybe compete in the RMSHA. Lol
How will that work anyway, don't the cc have to be the same in the stock 800 class.

I hope Ski-doo did a better job in the crankshaft dept than Polaris did, the new 850 is a 82mm bore, 80mm stroke... 900 Polaris anyone?

bore / stroke ??

ZACTLY... same as my comment in the other thread.

It's interesting that this new engine shares the same big stroke (80mm) and only 1mm smaller bore with the Polaris 900 (actually 866cc).

The Poo was a torque monster... but it had a lot of noticeable Gyroscopic effect compared to the 800 with a 70mm stroke... even though it had a lightweight "porkchop" crank. The "Gyro" effect of this larger stroke was one of the many 'Achilles-heel(s)" of the big Poo. I did however like the big "Grunt" of that monster stroke.

I always felt that Doo hit a great compromise with the 75.7mm stroke of the 800 E-Tec motors.

"Responsiveness" and "Gyroscopic effect" are two completely different things.

It will be interesting to see the running character of this big stroke new 850 in a hugely evolved chassis.
