I've posted some Electric Start (ES) kit info and some info on another thread, (and in the past)

Since then, I've received quite a few emails and PM's on the topic so I thought I'd break that down here to answer questions in advance.

I've seen some people selling Take-out ES kits in the swapmeet of this and other forums, as well as ebay....
Often times they are attempting to sell used the kits for over $300 without the Primary clutch.... or simply including the ring gear that was removed from their ES primary clutch.

Since you will not be able to bolt on a ES-starter ring gear to a NON ES Primary Clutch, the ring gear is useless. (see diagrams below)

I've had members that have purchased a used "kit" with just a ring gear in the past reach out to ask me what they should do to try to
fit the ring gear and it was difficult to tell them that the ring gear did them no good.

The buyer, after trying to install the kit, had to buy a whole new ES Clutch, to the tune of $470 at a discount price. ($570 Retail).

Pure Polaris, Polaris's parts and accessories division has put together an great kit, that includes EVERYTHING you would need to
install this into your sled besides a battery (which you can pick up locally for around $60-$80)

The kit from Pure Polaris (through your dealer) is substantially less expensive than buying the parts and pieces individually from your parts counter.

The kit really is a great deal because you get the Primary clutch with it as well... Then you can easily sell the old, non-ES, primary for
at least $250 if it is decent condition... Which brings the cost of the ES KIT, with all new parts, down to less than $275.

A used kit without the ES primary should go for around $200 or less if all the brackets/nuts/bolts/and
other hardware is included and is in good shape and the seller wants to swap out the primary for your non ES.

Assuming that the sellers ES clutch is in good serviceable condition as is yours.

Any more than that, or no swap-out of the primary, and you should consider the new kit then sell your old primary.

Lead Acid (liquid acid) Batteries can't be shipped legally via the normal methods.
I know the people here at the local shipping depot... someone shipped a lead-acid battery in a box with other items.
The battery leaked and damaged not only what was in their box, but a fair amount of others and some equipment.
After the damage was assessed, and Haz-mat service fees were paid, the shipper was on the hook for tens of thousands of dollars..
Plus some legal issues : (

The proper Electric Start (ES) kit for the 600/800 PRO Chassis sleds is Polaris P/N 2879330.

You CAN bolt a ring gear onto a non-ES primary. .... The mounting holes are there on the non-ES clutch - exact same part #.

In the spirit of getting accurate info out there... and not to "prove" anything.

No mounting holes on the back of a NON ES clutch...

The one shown here is a 2014 800 PRO RMK primary.. same on my 2013 and my buddies 2011 and 2012's.

The ES Primary has mounting boss's for the bolts and machined outer edge to accurately center the ring gear.

Not possible to mount a polaris ring gear to the non-es clutch.

I've received some requests on this topic... good to post it back up.

This applies to the 2015 sleds... I think many will be selling ES "kits" from their sleds as they were included in the sale price of their SnowCheck.

Read the thread carefully before buying a take off.

Link to the Pure Polaris website.

The price went up slightly in the last two years.. but the online stores will have it for around the same prices.

Is the clutch the same 600 to 800 pro? I ordered my 15 800 w/ es and want to put it on my daughters 12 600 pro any problems with this. My dealer said they would do the swap for $100, but forgot to make sure the clutch is the same.

According to the Polaris website, this kit WILL NOT FIT the 2012 and 2013 600's. It DOES fit the 2014 600's. I just tried to order one for my 2012 600 Pro and it was a no go.

The website automatic system has issues obviously. It will say it fits a 2015/14 but not a 2013/12 600/800... the sleds are essentially the same.

I've installed this kit on a 2013 600 Std RMK, and when I bought it... it WAS listed as compatible.

Electronic application-databases for vehicles, regardless of brands, are often inaccurate.

Polaris PN. 2879330, PRO-RIDE™ ELECTRIC START KIT BY POLARIS... fits all PRO RIDE chassis sleds except for the 550 models.

Good luck.

My concern is more the clutch than the electrical parts. 12's and 13's definitely have a different clutch part # than the 14's. Did you buy the kit before the 14's came out? has the clutch changed enough since then that it won't fit? I assume they've updated the clutches in the kits.

Cranks are the same.. sometimes part number changes are because of different suppliers or some other small change.

I don't have any other information... all of the small parts look the same though... bendix motor etc...

Here's a question - I don't want to remove the E-start cause my ultimate plan is to buy a 2016 or 17 and give my 2015 to wife. Or the E-start would be good for resale since (as you say), the take-off kit is really only worth a couple hundred bucks and/or turns into a schimozzle with the clutch.

Can I just take out the battery for now to save a few pounds? Tape up the leads? Or what would be needed to make that work? That's probably a really stupid question if you understand electrical systems...which I do not lol

Pull the battery, the brackets and sub wiring harness for that... The sub-harness simply un-plugs.

It will make sense when you pull it.

Take some pics... print them out and put them in the box of parts after you pull it.
Also...Store the battery in a warm place and charge it on occasion with a low-amp charger for small batteries (2 amps or less)

you could also pull the starter motor and flex shaft very easily as well, as the flex shaft just pulls off. You can then just leave the bendix in place, and then just slide it all back in place when you are ready to use it again.

Which is why the brand new kit (PN. 2879330) , at about $550 street price, INCLUDING the Primary clutch, is such a great option.

If you deduct what you can sell your clutch for... the brand new kit with everything but the battery (which you cant ship wet btw) then costs you $150 (or less).

With a swap...new for new...on the primary...a complete ES "KIT" that someone would take out of their new sled... with all brackets, battery box,
wiring-harness starter/drive/cables/solenoid/bendix and all hardware would only be worth $200 or less.
Then you have to pull your clutch and send it to them for exchange.. what a hassle plus shipping costs.

If you buddy has one that is your town... and you can do the swap in your garage and throw him
$200 for the COMPLETE setup with battery... maybe... maybe... that makes sense.

I see "kits" pop up on ebay as "new take offs" that list the part number for the kit and quote $675 for the retail price... but they don't have the clutch.

Old post, maybe there’s some new definitive answers now on if the 800 primary with the ring gear would be a direct swap for a 600.

The machines in question are a

2015 pro 800 with the ES
wanting to put this sleds ES system on a 2012 pro 600.

Deal is with my friend and neighbor so wouldn’t have any shipping or anything and it would come with the battery.

Yes, you can put the 800 clutch on a 600 and you will increase the durability as you will now have the larger 800 cover and larger cover bushing. Winning.

The wiring plug for the E-start is the same on both the 600 and 800.

Thank you.

So to keep everything as close to as stock and for fairness we could swap the covers when pulling the weights and spring out of the clutches so both sleds would retain their own covers. This would work right?
