My dad and I have been working on this sled off and on for the last year. It's finally running.

Started off as a VE tunnel on an '01 Sno pro bulkhead with a diamond drive. We took the tunnel and put it on an '04 1M bulkhead, but kept the diamond drive setup.

Fabricated some heat exchangers to tie into the running board coolers.

Mounted an M-series seat and tank to it, took a little bit of work.

Steering post was interesting, ended up modifying one from a Polaris IQ with a u-joint. Makes it nearly vertical, with plenty of carb clearance.
First try, with a wildchild (or CR racing, not sure which) post, which didn't clear the carbs:

Currently running a 975 big bore, with plans to put the 1500 triple in it when we get enough time to build another set of pipes.

Track is a 2.25 x 162 powerclaw with an '08+ M suspension

We'll get the mesh hood on it as soon as we figure out a windshield for it.

First ride:

Wiring, I know, it's not pretty at the moment, but it works:

Hope to clean the dash up when the mesh hood happens.

Any idea if this would work with a non diamond drive setup? I thought about about doing it with my king triple but I couldnt get the tack to clear the secondary with the clutch all the way open. I never fully mocked it up because I didnt want to hack the tank support off.

Will,
I'm not actually sure about that, now that you mention it. You might be able to do it if you didn't mount the seat/tank quite as far forward as we did. We pushed it quite a bit forward from where it is stock.

No changes for this winter, but it works really well. Handles much differently than our other 1Ms, much more like a newer sled. Only issue is that the seat is almost too tall, could be an inch or two shorter.

I'm not sure the powerclaw is better than the 2.5" camo extreme, but it has worked very well for us. I've taken practically no pictures this winter, so I don't have anything impressive to show.

We did ride yesterday with a 2014 Pro 800, and power-wise, he wasn't even close, not that that was surprising. It was hero snow, so there wasn't much stopping anyone, but I am happy enough that I think for the money we've got in it, we're close enough to any new sled.

We still want to re-do the hood/console interface, so seal better, and build some sort of airbox.

Then of course, we'd like to get the 1500 stuck in this chassis eventually also. Already have the motor mounts in, just have to build pipes.

Got to ride this thing a good part of the day with them, and coming off a poo IQ chassis, its characteristics are similer. I can say i dont mind riding the thing. My only beef with it is that the diamond drive pushes the engine so far to the left side that getting and keeping the sled on the right edge is noticeably more dificult. But it sure does work well sidehilling on the left side! Should balance out much better with an extra cylinder in there. Oh, and the track....it goes just fine, no issues there. But the damn thing goes faster when you hit the brake...

The motor is actually in the exact same location as stock. We didn't have to move it at all to fit the diamond drive. It's that far over on all the other sleds too. IMO, most sleds are easier to sidehill left.

So my Dad found a mesh hood for my old girl. I hate the thought but love the benefits. He says underhood temps are ridiculously low now. Even with the venting I had previously. I just can't get over the look of the mesh....LOL

I was thinking you ought to be able to cut the headlight/gauge pod off a stock hood, and attach it to the top of a mesh hood. That might redeem the aesthetics somewhat. You'd also be able to use a stock windshield.

That's in the works, but it's pretty far down on the project list.
