Project SS: Skinny Sled

I have always wanted to design and build my own sled, but now having a young family I never thought I would have the time. I need to thank my wife who pushed me to finally start and complete project "Skinny Sled". Without her it would not have been possible.
The goal of this project was to make a sled that was as skinny/narrow as possible. It has a 32" ski stance and is about 26" at its widest point, and has a dry weight of 410 lbs. The chassis was my own design built from scratch, as well as the hood/panels, seat and tank. Hopefully from the pictures you can get an idea of how narrow it is. I have had it out a couple of times and it is a blast to drive.

Yes I have a lot of build pics and with the hood removed, but I am going to hold out and see if any of the big 4 would be interested in getting some patents from it first (had to do some outside the box stuff to make everything fit) If not, I will post them soon.
It has pro rmk track, turned by 8 tooth xp drivers and TKI belt drive. There is enough clearance to put up to a 4" lug though. The seat I made, the tank is aluminum 1/8".
Thank you for your comments.

Will you reveal what engine it has ?
I have a couple of ideas how to narrow up a twin two stroke or a v-twin four stroke so it will be really interesting to se if you used some similar idea. Kind of hoping none of the big four are interested so we get to see it soon :face-icon-small-dis

Cool.

Very nice build.
Looks like you could stand over top of the drive shaft?
Does it have a primer?
Is it carbureted or EFI?
Good luck

It has a 670 HO that I had sitting around with only a few miles on it. This was the engine that got me hooked on snowmobiling in high school. I have always loved the low and mid range on it and not having reeds has always been awesome. I will be putting in an 800 fuel injected this summer though, still need the easy starts and reverse!

Very cool. I'm guessing that something similar to this is what we will be seeing in 5-10 years for the mountain segment.

love it!

cant wait to see more info. Good luck getting a manufacturer to bite, that would be awesome to have your technology on production sleds!

Love to see more pics. Did you use the ski doo bulkhead? Or is everything just attached to the alum panels?
