Cut out rear rail ok?

So, I got a 97 Summit 670 for a song, but looking at all the things that are wrong with this sled, im shocked that it moves under its own power.

Regardless, I was a mechanic in a past life, so live and learn.

Anyway, it has a 156 track on it and I'd like to bring it back to its 136 stock track. The problem is that the tool that installed the rail extension cut out the loop of aluminum that closes in the rear portion of the rail where the axle is mounted. Is this an issue? Since the axle is bolted in and tensioned, is this something that can become a safety issue or is it weaked without that rear portion?

I guess I could get a very short extender, say a 144 and not rely on the end of the rail, but I'd rather use the more readily available 136's for trail riding.

Thanks for any advise!
