Hello to the locals in Colorado! Where would you recommend staying where there is riding directly from the Lodge/Hotel that would accomodate 40+? Riders would break up into small groups to ride during the day, but this perfect location must have a FABULOUS gathering area for evening get togethers.

GO....

As you know CO is tougher for ride in/out than other States.

Study these.

Hahn's Peak
Grand Lake
Red Cliff
Taylor Park
Grand Mesa
Camp Hale lodge
Leadville
Silverton
Tomichi Creek don't know if they could do that many, or nice lodge?

Will holler if i think of more.

Leadville, Silverton, and Grand Lake are all ride out towns.

Grand Lake is known for it, but is a ways to the better riding.

Other two are maybe more geared for local with sleds, but would have some lodging that i'm not sure how far they wold be from the trails.

Whats the Colorado equivalent of TOGWOTEE MOUNTAIN LODGE?

Don't know how far the lodge is to the goods but if it's as close as i think, there's not many in CO that will check as many boxes as Tog.

With Tog you've got a nice big Lodge that's the playground and owned/run by a food service corp.

Most of the CO riding is good. It's the combo of close and nice lodging that's the problem for a big group. Nicer/bigger lodging gets you a trail ride in, closer to the goods gets you smaller lodging.

Guessing you guys are chasing snow?

1st liar doesn't have a chance but Rabbit Ears, Grand Lake, and Taylor Park/Cottonwood are reporting deeper bases than most of the riding areas. Can't find a base report for Hahn's, but guessing it should be similar to Rabbit?

Nursing a messed up knee, or would be able to confirm. But if Cottonwood is having the year they're claiming, than Taylor Park should be considered. Nothing fancy, but run by super nice people. Lodge/restaurant isn't real big, but could probably accommodate you. Best thing about Taylor would be parking and elbow run. Good spot for a bunch of rednecks with big trailers, and not many people as the crowds access Cottonwood from the other side of the pass.

Guessing the snow reports are probably fairly legit. Kids got the slope with the Western State "W" logo on it to avalanche in the town of Gunnison way down in the valley. So it's usually a good sign when the valley floor is getting snow.

Anyways, do your homework.

Possibly Electric Mtn Lodge which you have to ride to it. On the Grand Mesa.

CRAIG COLORADO
Thanks DDECKER, which lodge specifically? This one? http://hahnspeakroadhouse.com/lodging/

Are there enough sled rentals in the area if say 10 people need them?

Yes that's the one and CSR rents MTN sleds and I believe SLO or steamboat lake outfitters rents trail sleds, the others are right there no place like tog but this is the best place I know in CO.. Ive never rode at Grand Lake but... am willing to make a trip there this season to scope it out.

Is there a specific Lodge there that can host 40+ guests with a large gathering area?

Missy,
Here's a couple of ideas.

First, the Daven Haven Lodge has a collection of cabins that would be able to accommodate 40 guests. They also advertise hosting of special events - wedding, family reunions, corporate - on their "Services" page. They are a few blocks off the town main street - http://davenhavenlodge.com/

Second, there is the Western Riviera and Courtyard cabins. We stay at the courtyard cabins whenever we visit. Both the main lodge and cabins are in the middle of town so you can walk to most everything. They don't have a restaurant, but they are adjacent to the Town Square Park that has a covered pavilion available for rent from the town of Grand Lake and you could have a caterer handle the food:
