'94 440 engine in '96 Trail 488?

'94 440 engine in '96 Trail 488?
I have a '96 traill Touring with a bad motor and a chance to pick up a '94 superSport 440 motor...anyone know if this will bolt right in?
Any suggestions?

Considering they are both fan cooled engines, both were made for the same chassis in very similar years, and, while I can't remember exactly, I was pretty sure that the 488 was a bored out 440. So, it should be fairly straight forward I would think...?

Yep, like Treemagnet said...only thing I would wonder about too is the stator..should work:face-icon-small-win

There will be a motor mount issue, you will need to use the 488 motor mounts, also, the 440's ran the P-90 transmissions whereas the 488's ran the P-85 transmissions. These transmissions are not compatable, you must either convert all one way or another. Tried this swap once only going from a 440 to a 488.

I put a 488 in my 93 Sport last year. I used mostly everything off of the 440. Was pretty much just a straight swap over. Only thing I didnt swap was the clutches.
