Have to sell sled for family, not sure what it's worth

I got a question for you guys if you can help. I recently was asked to sell a sled due to family problems and the people who signed for it have no idea what a snowmobile hardly is. I was hoping you guys could give me an idea of what I have on my hands price-wise. I won't post a for sale ad here but I would like to know what fair market value would be. They don't want to make any extra money but just pay off the note which is around $2,300 currently.

Things I know:
  • 2008 Polaris 700 RMK
  • 4,040 miles
  • long tracked to a Challenger Extreme 162x15x2.5
  • 4 inch bar risers
  • aftermarket can
  • front bumper is cracked
  • recoil is a little jerky
  • smokes a lot when it's running
  • leaves a oil slick wherever it runs (looks like the oil was overfilled or had cap issues since there is a rag under the cap)
  • starts well and idles up nicely
  • looks like it was ridden pretty hard and put away wet

Any help you guys can give me would be great. Last sled I sold was a very good condition modded 08 M1000. I would have no idea how to price this thing.

Thanks so much for the help!

The 700 is a very sought after sled here in Utah. They were great. That said, that one has been ridden hard. If it were in Utah I would start at $3500 and then entertain offers down from there I suppose.

Thanks for the input. Any particular reason the 700's were desirable over the 800's? I'm just trying to refine my sales pitch lol. I can talk about the M8 and M1000 all day long but now my expertise is Snowbikes and I haven't owned a Polaris since my 2000 800 Pro RMK.

The 700's are known to be more durable and don't have the same piston/blown engine issues as the 800's. Just a little less HP & torque for big climbs.

I would give it a good cleaning, install a sleeve in the oil tank to fix out of round condition that is causing your leaky mess, check the oil pump setting, clean the exhaust valves up to make sure they are open and closing freely, and replace the small springs in the valve assemblies.

The $3,500 starting price sounds good to me also.
