boat mechanic help needed

I have a 2001 24 foot Lextra poontoon with a 3.0 mercuriser inboard.
It will go in forward and when you shut it off it will go into neutral however it will not go into reverse.

When you pull it down to reverse it goes really easy and the motor just revs up.

Any help before I have to take it to the shop?

That sounds like a linkage problem in the lower drive unit, unless you have a service manual it's kinda a pain to set up right. Sounds like you'll have to take it in, also might be a bad bearing or bushing on the shift shaft. Good luck!

I was going to say the same, linkage between the lever and the gearing itself perhaps.. and they are pretty tight to work on.. shop will be your best bet, good luck man hope you get your cruiser goin!:beer;
