i get better sled performance with the 46 belt....average 700 miles per belt, but i don't wait until they explode, just to where it looks like a cord will pop out pretty soon...

I prefer the 060 belt. It will pull down your RPM's about 200 less than the 046, but you'll get longer belt life with the 060, least that's the case with mine. I'm running porting, pipe etc and I think with the added hp the 046 belt is too thin. Just my .02

They are the same size right?

I like either belt most of the time, but when the snow is wet and the riding is good, it gets too stickey and wont backshift. I'm sure I could make it work with some more time spent on clutching, but its not worth it. The 046 lasts just as long for me, and its much cheaper.

I like the 060 because it grabs better for me. I tried the cheaper 046 and had to reclutch to run it due to the higher RPM, if its reving higher it must be slipping, and therefore more clutch heat which is never a good thing.

I think you'll have a lot of people in this that have not honestly tried all three. I find it extremely hard after seeing what I have seen with a number of people that anyone would go BACK from the 817 to one of the cat belts.

If you want more or less RPM's change weights. Don't go for one belt or the other because of the rpm's.

Btw, for me the 046 blows even quicker than the 060. (and still no warranty...)

i find the 817 to be sticker than the 060. i like it so far. never broke it in. i dont remember seeing directions anywhere to do so... works really good for me so far.... ran a few drags and even a short run up to just over 90 mph and no boom. just remember to wash your new belts before installing.

I have used all of them. The 046 have harder compound and is slipping the most but can take more heat.

The 060 and 817 is pretty simular and could not get them to last any longer. But they have a tencency to explode in a vorce manner than the 046 after abuse...

It looks like the 046 is giving more wear to the clutches, but since this is the cheapest/milage I will stick to it.

The nice thing about this is that you can use the 060/xs817 at lower altitude and switch to the 046 at higer altitude to maintain rpm with out having invested in adjustable weights and adj secondary.

I run the gates 43x4616 and have reasonable luck with them. The 046 cat belt did better for me than the 060. The gates belt acts kind of between the 060 and the 046, but doesn't lose rpm when it gets hot like the 060 does.

Belts

Rode my 1000 for 5 years. Last three piped with head. Had the Linderman mount, 046 and appropriate weight. About 1000 km a season. Changed to a new one at the start of the season just because.

Two extra motor mounts with a torque stop and a 046 = good belt life on mine.

Exactly what he said. I make motor mount kits for the m1000 after having one. The biggest thing I noticed was after adding the motor mount is the power gain to the track. Keep your motor strait and it helps... weird... I am a really aggressive back country/side hill/climbing type of rider. I could only get 150 miles out of a belt 046 or 060. And yes I tried every clutch offset I could and clutch combination and I always kept them clean. After adding my motor mount I got 800 miles on a used belt I bought. I did favor the 046 though, seemed to bite a little better on engagement.

I did ride with m1000 guys that never had belt issues.. I also never saw them leave the trail or even use the top half of their clutches. Not saying every guy that doesn't have belt issues is the same.

My motor mount is $100 plus shipping.

those were the days

when the m1000 came out and i saw how stupidly high geared they were, I wouldn't do mods on them until the customer regeared for running in the mtn. After that, belts not an issue, 2000 miles in the trees no big deal with good clutching.

you could get by with tall gearing on an M5 but not a heavy M1000.

All the cat belts are junk...I have 2 new ones if somebody wants to buy them..... Switch to the Carlisle XS and you will not go back. On my M8 I was blowing a belts about every ride after adding an SLP stage 2 and Cutler weights in the primary. Switched to the Carlisle belt and the engagement is sooooo much smoother and now have about 400 miles and belt looks new. They come with a price but worth every penny IMO

yes the alignment is good on clutches, no black marks from slipping and the motor mounts are not broken. Was getting 1200-1500 miles on stock belts before the stage 2 was added.

Good luck with your pole
